Any ideas?

I'll start with mods. FMIC, U&L pipes, grim speed boost controller, full turbo back exhaust, intake and stage1 clutch. I got the car tuned. Put a catch can in the vacuum line coming out of the valve cover going into the intake. Regardless of how I drive the car, I smell hot oil. Not burning oil just hot oil. I am not leaking anything anywhere. The oil level has been then same for over 1,000 miles. Anyone got any ideas as to what this is?

Remove the catch-can, plumb it like stock, and report back.

I ran it both ways, the catch can is new. Only been on about 200 miles max. Still the same smell. Haha might have helped if I put that in the original post.

Dumb question, if you are running a catch can, doesn't it have a vent on top of it? Possibly smell from the catch can? Also if you put the air on recirculate does the smell go away?

I am running a test pipe.

There is no vent on the catch can. I don't smell it inside the car at all. Just from the outside.

The catch-can needs to be routed back into your intake pipe; the crankcase pressure needs somewhere to go.

The catch can runs from the vacuum port on the valve cover straight back to the intake

Could it just be blow by that's causing the smell?

Is it after a hard driving, or do you just smell it while the vehicle is idling right from the get go?

I sometimes get a hot coolant smell. Are you sure it's oil and not coolant?

Both driving hard and normal driving but not right at start up. It's defiantly not coolant.

Does it possibly smell a little like gasoline? There were a bunch of people who could smell gas in their vehicles occationally when it gets hot out. I'll see if I can find the thread.

Can you post some pics of your engine bay/catch can set-up?

From what I've read the catch cans on the X don't collect much, if any, oil unless your tracking the car hard.

Maybe you're getting some residual oil in the lines running to your catch can and the heat from the engine bay is heating the lines enough to cause the smell you're describing.

I will post up some pics of the setup but it was still doing it before I put the catch can in.
