Oil filter question

I'm approaching the time for my 1st oil change. I am just going to go with the Mobile1 synthetic. My question is where can I purchase the oil filter from? Is it pretty much an online or dealership purchase? Or will my local autozone or Lube shop carry it?

If you don't want to buy an OEM filter online or from a dealership, there are a few other good brands of aftermarket filters readily available at most auto parts stores such as Bosch, Mobil 1, and Purolator PureOne (Gold). I personally run OEM Mitsu filters, but I'd feel comfortable running any of the three aftermarket brands mentioned too.

I dont mind buying an OEM fliter. Is there a good site to buy one? I prefer not to go to the dealer because first off I hate the local Mitsu dealers with a passion. And because the only one I would go to is pretty far away. The one closes to me (Gillman of San Antonio) I wouldnt let them work on a Geo Metro.

If I rolled up into a dealership without and OEM filter will they try to void warranty?

Don Herring Mitsubishi has online parts ordering, they're the only Mitsu dealerships I deal with: http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...egoryID=157926

They sponsor both EvoM and NTEC and do quite a bit for the Evo community in Texas by hosting track events, car shows, etc.

I'm familiar with their dealership. I've seen their inventory online. Those people sure do like to carry the WW's.

Do ya'll do your own oil changes or get it done at places other then the stealerships?

When I was younger I had always done my own oil changes. Then I started getting them done at small oil/lube shops. Mostly because I didnt feel like dealing with the old oil disposal.

But with my Evo I worry about warranty honoring and future private party sale. Should I only get my oil changed at a dealership so I will have proof a authorized Mitsu service department had done it? Or is it ok (warranty wise) to have your oil changed at places other than a dealership?

You can have your oil changed anywhere, just keep detailed records of when the service was performed and what oil and filter was used; no not use the cheap generic filters than most lube shops stock though. I personally have done all my own oil changes with the exception of one. I got a "free oil change" coupon from Mitsubishi when I bought my car.

I was thinking of going to a lube shop down the street to get it done. They carry the mobile1 synthetic and I was going to buy the filter from somewhere else (thus my posting question).

I use whatever generic oil filter they put on it on my eclipse. I always have. I dont think it would hurt the Eclipse much. But definitely want to use the proper filter for the Evo.

So if Mitsu tries to sweat me about no service records if/when I need warranty work I can just show them the oil change records from these lube shops? (Talking about before the 30k service or whatever scheduled services. Just regular oil changes)

Mitsu won't give you any sort of grief, it's pretty normal it get your oil changed elsewhere. *IF* a warranty repair were to arrise that they claimed was due to oil-related issue then you'd just need to show them your oil change receipts to prove it was done at proper intervals.

If they carry Mobil 1 oil, you should check to see if they also offer Mobil 1 oil filters.

Also go with the Mobil 1 Synthetic High Mileage as it is the old formula that still has the SL rating and high zinc content. The new synthetic is SN rated and has pretty crappy zinc count.
