Exclamation Issue about K&N Typhoon Intake .. READ BEFORE YOU BUY

hi guyzz,,

After i got feedback from this thread:

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...uggestion.html

i decided to go for K&N Typhoon Intake on my X MR
Part number: 69-6546TWR

this kit is awesome
BUT, ladies & gentleman this kit won't fit 100% on MR's

WHY ?

okay, on this kit there is a bracket which hold the air intake, it should be installed on two bolts which secure the transmission/
engine lifting .. but this thing won't work on MR's, it will work on GSR's only
the reason is the transmission size of SST and manual 5 speed is totally different,,

these two steps (step 11 & step 15) are there on installation instruction sheet of K&N official web,

this is the bracket:

when u think to fix the bracket on SST transmission bolt, this will be the results:

the bracket goes over the intake level as you can see, bcoz there is differences on bolt area between SST and manual transmission

as a result, ur intake will look like this (without bracket), unless you find out the rooting of custom job:

and unfortunately this kit was not mentioned its for GSR only!
u can refer to the following official link

http://www.knfilters.com/search/prod...rod=69-6546twr

not even on other links:

http://www.lancershop.com/customer/p...cat=117&page=1

http://www.evoxparts.com/evoxparts/K...O-X-p-394.html

so just be careful

.................................................. .................................................. ........................................

other than that, its performs well + its awesome ..
BOV sound & Turbo is just a like a ringtone

on my X with stock intake it used to push 25PSI max n drop/hold on 15PSI
after K&N typhoon kit it shoots 28PSI max n drop/hold on 18PSI - 20PSI

this is the pic after installing this kit on my X

At least it looks really good and works, right? I'm glad you cleaned up the engine bay after the install.

Looks pretty good. It would bug me that both pieces of my UICP don't match. What year is your Evo?

And I agree with FJF, when you get tuned you will really love it.

On my it spike to 25lb and drops to 15lb with the k&n. When I try putting a bigger agency uicp on it spike to 28lb and drops to 18lb but when I let it cost sometime it stall so I put the k@n one back on.

Are you tuned or have a boost controller?

Couldn't you just heat and bed the bracket at the mounting locations? Or attach a small plate at the transmission mounting location. The plate would use two holes, one to mount to the transmission and one to mount to the bracket, thus extending the bracket to meet the mounting location on the intake.

It shouldn't stall when coasting; that's why I asked. I'm running on a stock tune, no boost controller, ETS UICP, K&N drop in, ETS test pipe, and boost gauge. My boost will spike up to 28-29psi if I go WOT (only did it once) and settle to 20-22psi. I've never stalled.

I don't know it only does it with the k@n intake and agency uicp but it doesn't do it with the k@n uicp.I guess that why they came together.when I had the agency uicp and a just a cone filter it didn't stall.

Sorry for bringing back an old thread, but what did you end up doing? Just not using the bracket and letting the intake float?

Also, are there any problems with vibration from the hard intake pipe interfering with the MAF like on the 8/9's?

I just received this intake in the mail and am wondering if I should let it float, send it back, or make a new bracket. I am tuning on Monday (at RRE), so I gotta get something going this weekend!

Thanks! I installed it Saturday and that's what I ended up doing. The heat shield is bolted on so I think it's fine if this floats for a while. I will put together a new bracket when I have a chance.

BTW, my baseline dyno pulls showed as high as 270 AWHP (at roadrace) prior to tuning. They expected closer to 240 (with the SST) when stock. However, before tuning, it was very inconsistent. After tuning, they brought it in to around 300 AWHP (limited by the amount of torque the SST can take).

Great intake and sexy sounds!
