He can only use two employee purchases a year and he got me the Evo and a TL for himself earlier...plus he has to be at the dealer with you to sign paperwork...no way in hell they would make it an easy process lol

I got the Works short shifter because off of Kracka's comparison. I figured I'd get the TWM shifter cage, too, since the old one had to come out. Along with TWM Hybrid Phantom shift knob. I think the notchiness is still there, but it goes into gear much easier.

This looks nice and expensive but do you really need all this?

I think I read something about the stock plastic cage breaking? I didn't want to deal with taking it apart again to change the cage if that ever happened, so I did everything at the same time.

If you mod this car, things can get expensive real quick. The install wasn't too bad... I don't remember how long it took, but it didn't take anywhere near two hours.

The shifter and bushing install is pretty basic and straight-forward, just take your time.

If you can break the stock plastic cage you are shifting WAY too hard and have bigger things to worry about...such as your transmission internals. Remember, something is always going to give, it's just better when it's not an expensive internal component. Among other reasons, this is why I like the WORKS urethane shifter bushings; they absorb some of the shock of a hard shift rather than it all being transferred into my transmission case.

Are those the bushings for the cage or for the cables on the transmission case?

there is a flexible cable between the shifter and the actual transmission. Doesnt matter how hard you shift to gears as long as its clean, you cant do any damage in the transmission really that way. That is not true on the STI though. There is no cable and you can do direct damage there , but the shifter feels much better and precise.
The shifter cage and the other parts of it is another story.
But i personally never heard anything about to hard shifting before. So i might be wrong. I had to come this site to find out also the throttle pedal can brake ... LOL
That is why i love this site.
