EVO X Shift 1st 2nd 3rd
Hello Everyone,
I am currently in the market for a car looking at the Mitsu Evolution 2008/2010 or X models. I test drove both the GSR and the MR and loved the GSR due to the free range and 5 speed trans. However when I test drove an 2008 Evo MR it felt as though first second and third were really hard shifting in comparison to most semi-matics I've driven. Take into consideration I have been driving a 2009 Mitsu Lancer GTS with the CVT for two years now
Question: How hard does the transmission actually kick when shifting from a stop through 1st, 2nd and 3rd.
Reason: Don't want to purchase a car without getting full input from people that drive the car.
Thanks,

Usualy we hear problem about grinding shift in 2 and 3 gear on the GSR model.
I can't realy tell you anything about the MR tranny but I do love the 5 speed gsr tranny.
Be aware that a MR tranny is around 10k to change ...

Thanks Everyone,
As I figured it was most likely option 3 and when I drove it I had a really uneasy feeling about the car. Yet again thanks for confirming my gut feeling good to get an outside view/experience.

Just keep in mind the dual clutch transmission is not an automatic by design and does feel different from a normal auto trans. Compared to any automatic I've driven, the MR trans does feel alot different in up and down shifts.
The clutches in the trans needs to be broken in and it will feel a little jerky or harsh until they do.
Most transmission issues are covered under warranty and are line replaceable units, so don't fret over the cost of repair as some have stated.

That's silly, just find someone in your area that has an MR and go for a ride. Or go test drive a new one. A video won't show much.
The MR DCT is very jerky at slow speeds like all other dual clutch transmissions. The fast shifting speeds at the track don't make up for the rough ride in daily stop and go conditions. Get the MR only if you can live with the lack of sensitivity at slow city speeds.
I don't have anything like this. In normal mode as a DD it shifts so smooth is like driving a cvt
There's two things at play. One - the SST has a lag before it engages from N to 1st. So if you are stopped and press the gas there is a slight hesitation as it engages gear. Two - the throttle system is drive by wire, there have been reports of even manual owners complaining about jerkiness in stop and go traffic.
There is a computer between your application of the gas and actually accelerating. If you go on/off/on/off rapidly, the computer is trying to guess how much throttle application you really want, and can be jerky. Smoothing out throttle inputs cured my 'jerkiness' in stop and go traffic.
Edit: And there is certainly no "kick" when the transmission changes gears - in normal/auto mode especially.
Mine doesnt do that at all. My Fathers BMW M6 was like that but not my EVO.
