Bouncy shifts from 1st to 2nd...

What am I doing wrong because I always seem to get a bouncy shift from 1st to 2nd gear. Am I not applying enough gas? what rpm should I be shifting from 1st to 2nd. I normally shift at 2800 rpm or 3000 rpm. The bouncy shifts are driving me crazy. Help someone. Thanks in advance.

Let me guess...this is your first MT car? The Evo is mine, and I overcame this problem The reason your getting bouncy shifts is probably because you are lifting off the throttle between shifts too much and letting the revs drop, making the engine and transmission speeds not equal. Try shifting a bit quicker and if your revs drop too much bring them back up with the gas, but overall the 1 to 2 shift should take about .5-.7 seconds, and you should take your foot off the gas just enough to not over-rev the engine but enough to keep the revs + or - 500 rpm from the shift point.

I could be wrong here, I've only been driving stick for a week

unplug the launch control plug behind the clutch..

when u press in the clutch it makes the revs drop muuuuch slower... its much easier to learn to rev match on downshifting and up shifting with it unplugged if youve never driven stick be4.. i taught 2 people how to drive on my car and i had great success doing that....

cheers!

Do you normally leave the launch control plug out? Or only when teaching people how to drive? Any negative side to leaving it unplugged if you're not having problems shifting anyways?

naa i leave it plugged in when i drive it....

but with it unplugged for the rpms to drop it takes twice the normal time, makes it a little easier....

no drawbacks are known... many people who want to avoid the stock 2-step on the 05/06 plug it and ya can rev it all the way up...

give that a try and see how ya do.... dont be scared to give a little more gas than normal and over ride the clutch a little til ya get used to it....

the thing about driving stick... ya have to try everything on the car to find your own technique... every1 drives just a little different.... same concept but all little tweaks here and there...

pm me if ya have any more questions, took me a little bit to find the thread to check up on it

cheers!

I hate the slow dropping revs between changes.

Any more thoughts on this suggestion? This may be my first mod.

if ya know how to drive stick, then you just have to work on practicing...

but if youve never driven like these guys.... you picked the wrong car to learn on lool...

another thing i do if im not up to par and shifting slower than a grandma is just bliping the throttle.. just a little tap, not a rev to attract attention.

i'll press it in half way fast and pop off and thats usually the perfect amount of revs to get it in smooth

cheers!
