If you don't like the car shifting for you, then set it to manual mode and shift for yourself. Problem solved.

The GT-R is only available with a sequential transmission, would you consider GT-R drivers "weak" whatever that's supposed to mean?

Seriously, the MR is an awesome machine.

"Is there any point in modding the car anymore?"

YES!

Silly question, ALL cars are worth modding.
I'm with everyone else. The sst is the future and trying to explain how twin clutch is different than a cvt or torque converter is a waste of your time to people asking what Trans is in your Evo. If they know, they know.

I do consider gtr divers weak-sauce. The gtr makes lame drivers great drivers. Well until they hop in their Miata and start kicking ***, then i pass the respect back :-)

Nothing unmanly about having a superior transmission.

The Evo X MR is a well engineered car. I wouldn't care what people think as long as you are true to yourself and to others. In terms of your car, what matters is how much you enjoy it.

I love the MR.. but I also swore I wouldn't be the first to drive an automatic Evo..

but if anyone laughs at you for riding auto.. you can laugh at his ****ty ride.. because chances are, all the nice cars now come like this

I love MY SST... its amazing how fast and smooth it shifts. The only downside? The maintenance. I change my filter every two oil changes, the fluid every 4 oil changes, So I spend about $800 a year keeping the SST in perfect working order.

I also spent over a $4000 upgrading the clutches. Worth every penny at my power levels.

Just like everyone says, the SST is the future. The maintenance is what kills me about these cars though. The trans fluid and filter are crazy expensive. I wish it were cheaper. Here in Canada, we're screwed for prices. Only way we can save is ship the fluid from the states and do the changes ourselves. It would still be expensive but we can save a buck or two. Still looking around $700 more or less for everything.

How much does it cost to replace the SST if it breaks?

That would be my only concern with buying an MR. That and not sure how well it can hold power. :/

The fact is that twin clutches will dominate manuals, but ultimately it's what makes you happy that matters. I had a MR, it was fast as hell and at high speeds, there's no way I could keep up with the shifts in a manual car (slow speeds is a different story!). I went back to a GSR because manual makes me happier. In they city at slow speeds I get way more control with a clutch

just tell people you have a "flappy paddle" gearbox... just like in a Ferrari 458 italia.

It can hold a good bit of power stock. But you have to have an aftermarket tranny cooler if are going to do any tracking or maybe even a lot of spirited driving.

But yea.. The SST is around $10k to replace.. You could buy like 3 GSR trannys for that.

Just learn and research more about the SST to learn how to describe it better. It's not a normal "automatic".. It's a dual clutch semi-automatic.

Personally I wouldn't own a SST Evo because the GSR is just funner (dont think thats a a real word. Haha) to me.. Well that and the fear of it taking a crap on me around 50k miles and me having to shell out 10 grand.

I don't see any shame in my $40,000 car having using a system used in super cars.

I have the ability to shift when I feel like it, or let the car do it for me when I'm in traffic, or just being lazy.

Also I can let my wife drive the car without having to buy a new clutch every few months.

Like I said in my previous post, I think the MR SST is fantastic and I like that it's available in the car....However, I bought a GSR. For me it's not about the shifting, it's about the torque control available with the extra pedal. Anyhow, this video I thought was a great way to explain why someone would want an older "inferior transmission"

The MR is an amazing beast of car. The SST is superb on so many levels. I however went with the GSR because i absolutely love manual and i feel that im actually experiencing the drive. some may feel the same way with the SST but i feel i get more of that feeling from that hard down shift and flying away. just my .02

EDIT: awesome vid Blade.
