Got an Evo, but was asked if it is stick or not...

I got a 2012 Evo MR earlier this year... but was asked on a number of occasions by friends that if it is stick (manual) or not, and I had to say no.. it's automatic... Do you think it makes you look a bit stupid to drive EVO and drive automatic? I did not think this through when I got the car in the first place.. Even though the Evo MR can beat so many cars on the road, doesn't it just make you look weak as driver to just step on gas with all the shifting done for you? Is there any pride in winning a race with driving an automatic? Is there any point in modding the car anymore?

Thanks

Do you really care what others think of you if you drive an MR? You didn't get the car to please other people, so I think you should do whatever you want to your car as long as it will make you happy.

Sequential transmission are the future of cars. My Evo is a GSR mainly because i like the clutch pedal but I also accept the fact that they will come to an end. If you like your sequential enjoy it and don't worry about what others think like the above post. They will eventually be in one at some point in time.

Never think of a MR as just an automatic. The SST will kill on the track or spirited driving. Granted you have more fun with a GSR, the SST rocks

Thanks for all the insightful comments and support so far.. You're right about not caring too much about what others think.. I do enjoy my MR very much and I should continue to do so.. I am curious on what our forum members thinks about this topic.. feel free to add if you have an opinion.

I bought a GSR but I respect the MR's. Let's be honest...it's an Evo.

Edit: And this is off-topic but I can't stand when people say the X's aren't real Evo's. FFFUUU.

Oh look, this thread again.

If you don't like the car shifting for you, then set it to manual mode and shift for yourself. Problem solved.

The GT-R is only available with a sequential transmission, would you consider GT-R drivers "weak" whatever that's supposed to mean?

Seriously, the MR is an awesome machine.

"Is there any point in modding the car anymore?"

YES!

Silly question, ALL cars are worth modding.

I have both, I like manual because it's fun but I have to say the MR is no slouch and I enjoy it almost as much. Can't go wrong either way. Love the MR for weaving thru traffic, open road = GSR all the way. Long distance = MR. Love both!

Yes, tell them that unless you can power shift, your manual whatever car around the same hp will be slower because of the awesome SST shifting speed =)

Or be polite and tell them that SST is actually something they should try before criticizing them.

The SST is amazing technology!
and also is the future. theres nothing weak about it!

And either way... Auto or Manual, the Evo is still a very impressive car!

This. I bought a GSR simply because I had never driven a stick before and I wanted to learn. I have a blast driving this thing compared to my old automatic Galant.

Either way, the Evo X is an amazing car, manual or not.

Sounds like you want the GSR now?

Should have had a V8.

All joking aside, you have a great car. If someone thinks the MR as an inferior car in any shape or form, then they don't know anything about cars in the first place.

Formula 1 drivers have "automatic" gearboxes. The fact is that the MR shifts faster than a human ever could. That is the point.
