Atmospheric BOV?
Atmospheric BOV?
Any issues with an atmospheric BOV on the X? Ive heard all different types of roomers saying its not good because you run rich between shifts. Just wanted to ask some personal opinions.
thanks

R u talking about vent to air (vta) BOV? If so, then yes, coz evo is tuned on MAF, and not on MAP. u run rich coz the air that has been metered by MAF doesn't get recirculated to the system.
U can get away with 50/50 but u will still run a little richer. If u want VTA, u gotta be running MAP. Something like speed density.

Just like Kracka said, stick w/ the stock or something similar like the Cobb or Forge. I run the TS Dual Port full recirc and still have some flutter issues etc even though its all the way loose.
I run the TurboXS dual port BOV, which is partially vented.
My 99 GSX was fully vented.
Kracka is 100% correct when he states that you are losing air that has been metered by your intake system. Its definitely not the best practice for a turbo charged car.
What no one has ever been able to demonstrate for me is how much metered air is lost and what the real affect is on the car. If you think about it, the BOV is opening between shifts. You dont typically consider the time between shifts to be a time when the engine is generating power. So if you run rich during this period, who cares?
If you race or are concerned with getting as much performance as possible out of your car, dont vent. If its a street car, go for it. I never had a problem over the 7 years I had my GSX or the year Ive had my Evo that can be attributed to the vented BOV.
Disclaimer - I am not endorsing venting as being a good performance option or even denying it could lower performance. Just stating its not something I can personally notice when driving.

You guys crack me up with your spelling. That would be "rumors" and not "roomers". And, running full atmospheric is not a good thing with the MAF sensor.
