Cool Upgrade track for an Evo MR?

I'm planning on buying a 2012 Evo MR in a few days and was looking at a few tuners. After what I have read and some of my own research it's between Titan Motorsports or PRS(both of them are located near me in Orlando, FL).

I'm a complete newb when it comes to modding an Evo though, there's SO MANY options, vendors an such. I just want some reliable power for right now, like let's say I had $1500-$1800 to spend. I know a tune would be the best bang for the buck but which tune? And what other components should I get to increase the effectiveness of the tune, for example what brand of cat-back exhaust, downpipe, HFC's, and intake? Do any of you personally recommend any brand over the other? I'm still searching these forums and the net for experiences/dyno results but the information is simply all over the place and sometimes not so clear cut.

I'm just trying to get a clear upgrade track going so I can buy all the parts I need and take it to a shop to install/tune/dyno it so it's as easy and painless as possible. Just want to do it right the first time to avoid headaches in the future, ya know?

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Intake+Exhaust+Tune = Good Start

I know a few companies are having specials right now where you can get UICP, LICP, and Intake for rougly $490. I saw an Injen set-up like that on Ebay for $390.

These decisions are mostly up to you because most are personal preference. If you want to hear exhausts, search them on youtube. We don't know how deep you want it or how ricey. Also, what parts you want is up to you. Are you wanting all the same brand? The cheapest ones?

My suggestion is that you get ETS UICP, LICP, Intake, Greddy Ti-C, and a tune.

Thanks for the great information! To clarify some things
1) Not looking for a 'ricey' exhaust sound. I prefer a deep tone.
2) I don't want to go to cheap on parts, you get what you pay for you know. Probably something with a decent price(mid-range)
3) Doesn't have to all be the same brand but obviously that would make it easier to purchase them all.

I'm looking at all the stuff you said, trying to find the best deals on them. Thanks again!

I figured you didn't want it ricey, I was just making a point. It's hard to give examples that are unbiased. Most people will tell you to get what they have because they like it. Doesn't mean it's the best or the cheapest. the more detailed of information you request, the better responses you will get.

As far as looking at vendors. Search in the marketplace. Private Message the vendors and see who can give you the best deal. If you find a low price, see if another company can match it or beat it. Taking the time to shop and doing research on products you are interested in will go a long way in the end.

Hope this all helps.

Ah, I noticed that Greddy Ti-C exhaust is a single pipe only, not a fan of that look really. Going to look at some dual exhaust offerings. Will probably order up the UICP/LICP stuff should I purchase the car.

Will definitely message the vendors on this site for the best price.

ETS, Buschur, Agency Power, AMs, HKS, Invidia, Tomiako, CNT, Magnaflow, Perrin, Greddy, AQ Motorsports, Apexi, Ark, ATP, Borla, Cobb, DC Sports, Injen, Megan, Tanabe, Tomei, TurboXS, Ultimate Racing, Works

Those are all the companies I can think of off the top of my head that makes exhausts for the X. I'm sure there are even more then that. As you can see, reviews and research is important.

Yeah I saw that thread, love that car and will eventually do something that crazy in the future! It's outside of my $1500 budget at the moment though. Probably a tune/intake and another breather mod for now. Maybe a cat-back, then just build the rest of the exhaust as I get more money.

Greddy TiC is loud as ****

Even though this has been done a million times, here is the bullcrap filter for you:

These things are true:
-your OEM cat is already hi flow and doesn't need replaced
-your OEM down pipe is hi flow and changing it will sound cool but no gain
-the only restriction in your exhaust is the muffler. replace with a catback.
-OEM airbox is excellent design, changing it will not help a lot
-most mods will cause damage or have little to no affect without a tune
-there are a million "tuners" out there. Go with Cobb AP or a reputable shop like SC, KAizen, etc
-all of the above exhaust things apply only to stock turbo cars
-you can run e85 on OEM fuel lines and fuel filters. But you do need bigger injectors
-you can use stock fuel pump up to ~8-900cc fuel injectors. it flows 240lph

Line 1... Not true. I personally dynoed my car back to back using a Cobb high flow, it adds power

Line 2... Not true either gained significant power with AMS wide mouth down pipe.

i was told to run e85 the lines had to be replaced so was that untrue and all that would need to be done is empty the tank and refuel with e85??? and the bigger injectors of course

not bone stock, maybe with a tune along with it. The stock turbo simply cannot outflow it, CFM baby

yeah that's a good story...you don't have to change anything physical. All fuel lines are E85 compliant now.

But, no, you need a tune for it. If you can get your hands on some DW800 injectors, you can drop them in and just download a map for it from Cobb, or, I have an Cobb map for the MA Performance 1000cc's that hasn't been released yet, but I've been running it for months now. I can just send it to you.

After some research and looking at what people have said I think I'm going to go with an Invidia Q300 exhaust, AEM intake and a pro-tune from Titan Motorsports for now. This sound good?

I know nothing about those products. Do your research. Does Invidia do actual flow testing on their products?

Invidia is cheaper brand. Probably not the best quality. Finish looks ok. I know Invidia sells a single exit cat-back for the X for like $450 or so.
