I'm just coming out of the rotaries. Been into them for 18 years. All rx7's though.
Selling my 3rd gen and 2nd gen now. Waiting on my ordered 13' WW Evo GSR.
I test drove one and loved it. I have also driven the rx8's. I think you'll be
very happy with the Evo coming from the rx8. My opinion, stay around
330 to 375hp with the evo. Won't have to get into E85 or turbo upgrades.
And she'll be plenty quick enough while your in school.

very doubtful its going to happen. Theres no e-85 in Canada and i think you guys only have 91 octane correct?. You might and thats a big might, get it with meth and every single bolt on + cams.

I'm paying for it. The ****er still hasnt taken responsibility for it. But i had a second tuner look over the tune and he found the source of the issue. I had someone msg me about their car being tuned by the same guy, making the same sound when i tried to start mine and the same issues as mine. Told him to send the tune to the same person that looked over mine...same issue. The guy is now replacing his engine as well.

You will be around 350 with full bolt ons w/ 93. If you want to hit 400 you either need e85 or fp green. Just keep it under 400 tq and your block should be alright. e85 or fp green will put you right around 400 tq. Tq is what kills your engine not hp. Keep it under 400tq and you should have a safe reliable daily

You can totally have 400whp easily, even using a remote tuner to take care of your needs. However I still wish I had a shop within driving distance to me... if I had to do it all over again I don't think I would buy an Evo as much as I like them. This is my second one and I love how they drive, the the lack of support in(or around) TN blows.

350WHP, correct? I can't see only 60hp for a full exhaust and intake (maybe IC). I think an intake alone is supposedly good for like 20 peak hp.

Lmao, no intake will give you 20hp. Maybe 20hp with a tune but the tune is 15hp of the 20. You say you cant see only 50hp. Im guessing you are adding hp to the rated power. A stock evo only makes roughly 260whp. Full boltons will net a evo around 350whp. You need either e85, meth, cams or some nitrous to get 400

I had nothing but problems with my 04 RX-8. Being the first model year, it had almost every problem in the recalls and service bulletins. After my second engine started having the same issues as my first one (Mazda had to roll out a 10yr/100,000 engine warranty program because of known issues causing engine failures), I traded up for my X. Faster in every respect, more fun to drive and definately less headache. No worries about cold starts, flooding and adding oil at fill ups etc

Snakes was drag racing and over revved his engine and hit fuel cut while under boost. The piston went into the valve and it all got ugly really fast. I would say you can't totally blame the tuner for that.

The rest of his night was screwed over by a towing company that was retarded ( still hope they paid for all the drive-train probs)

actualy had another tuner look at my tune and the engine had nothing to do with me. I rev'd it to 7700...i know people that rev to 8000rpm on stock valvetrain. The issue was my intake valve timing was advanced to high and the exhaust to low. This created back pressure on the exhaust valves, which ended up snapping one of them. The back presure also explains why i found every piece of the valve and piston, in my intake manifold. That is the only place i found anything. The turbine blades had no damage, the oil and oil pump had no metal pieces or shavings at all. Every piece was in the intake manifold.

As for the tow company, they havent paid for anything and im done deal withing that ****. The dealership quoted me $14,000 for the replacement of the tcase and rear diff. I ripped apart both and the tcase is ****ed but the rear diff has no damage at all. I can send my tcase to Jacks for $1500 and have it rebuilt/upgraded. I leave tomorrow for a excerise with the army, come back then go on a 3 month course. So im not going to waste time and money on going to court over 1500. But trust me, the tow company is not getting off that easy....

Anyone here a student and financing their evo x ?

I'm planning on putting down around 10 grande and financing the rest.

How do you guys find the expenses between financing and maintenance ? Do you guys manage with a decent job ?

The thing is I am graduating university in a few years and I will have to start paying my financial loans off monthly as well

I live in the GTA, we have a few Fb groups you should join of you want some good answers and truthful.

400whp is easily done with a bigger turbo, we do Not I repeat do NOT have any worthy tuners. You WILL need to etune or drive stateside period. Magnus is a no no if you like your motor.

We only got 94oct in Canada people. Stop thinking if we had e85 we could all run easy high hp machines. We can't.

Tuner tuner tuner, there are many good ones. And ten times as many pathetic ones who think or say they are pro/good. If you want honest opinions on tuners pm me
