Rattle in Evo X

About to pull trigger on getting a 2013 Evo. I heard that there are some quality control issues with interior fit and finish and that the car tend to rattle. This would bug the hell out of me if it occurs.

Just want to do a quick survey. How many of you have issues with rattle or noise of uncertain origin in your Evo? Thanks.

It'd going to rattle. Period. If that's not your style, I would go with something else. It's based off of an Econo-box, so chances are the interior is going to rattle.

An Evolution? Rattling? That's news to me...

This has been plaguing the Evolution since it hit US shores in 2003. Just get yourself loud exhaust or turn up your stereo.

Don't get any Evo or WRX/STi if you care about rattles...

You'll spend the rest of your life trying to battle rattles. If you are concerned about rattles at all, do not buy an Evo. Simple as that.

I couldn't even tell you how many rattles mine has. I patched a few that were created because of the sub, but the whole dash rattles in various spots just with daily driving and my driver side window has been rattling ever since I got the car (anyone else have this issue? seems a little abnormal).

I'm sorry, but I do not believe that the chassis of an Evo X is "based off an Econo-box."

Yes, these cars rattle, but not for the above reason.

wasn't it that the base lancer developed after the Evo X was designed?

if memory serves me right, its the first time they have done it.

There is a TSB for this issue. The front windows rattle like a mother when they are about 2 inches down or all the way down. It is caused by a bolt which is supposed to secure the glass to the bracket being under-torqued and getting loose. If you are mechanically inclined, take the door apart yourself, once the inner panel is off and the protective film peeled back, roll the window partially down (I think like 2/3 the way) and you will be able to access the bolt through an access hole. Either remove it and add loc-tite and reinstall it, or simply re-tighten it. Just know that if you simply re-tighten it, it will most likely work its way loose again.

Yeah the X was made first and then the lancer was based off of it....I've seen it a million times where ppl still say its the other way around but when the concept x was announced they said all lancers are based off of it....

but to answer the OP...my car zero rattles until I put my exhaust on and while I get no drone at all its pretty throaty so it makes things rattle a bit...and combined with the sub in the theres deff some rattling in the back...nothing that some more sound deadening couldnt fix...nothing rattles for me on the dash so far thankfully!

basically what you need to do is ride/drive with someone who has one thats got some miles on it or a used one at a dealer and see what you think...I know the 2012/13 have sound deadening all over the place if you get the Sunroof and Leather package so that may also make a difference
