FR-S was fun small car, I was picked in the 1st 86 Promo w/ the Trip and all the swag. We got the car in May, 1 mo early then the norm public general release. SCION/Toyota have gone Big w/ the release of the car! It def lacked HP being 200hp - but was a fun car! If you have had turbo cars, you def are like - That's it? It handled Very Good, well Balanced Rwd! I did Hankook RS-3 tires and rocked C-Stock , took 1st last 5 events w/ FR-S. That is where it shines in handling. Fair room, backseat can fold down and haul 4 tires/wheels no prob. Not ideal for passengers back there.

You WILL need snow tires, they are 180 treadwear Advans, Summer only tire are oem on the Evo X.

Good luck!

Pics

Sorry for the delay but here are some pics of the new ride...had it for a few weeks so far and love it!! Not missing my type-s anymore. So now for a noob question... Sometime when I left off the gas in 2nd or 3rd after lightly accelerating up to about 3k the car will sort of stutter or jerk. I'm guessing its something to do with boost just starting to build and me letting off the gas at the same time? Is this normal? Also, is it normal for the idle to be a little erratic? Not very bad but it fluctuates up or down about 100-200 rpms sometimes. Learning that turbo cars are so different than NA, but loving it.

the SSS is "okay/alright"

UNLESS
1. you plan on putting a buckets seat,
2. changing out your own stereo,
3. putting in your own hid kit.

otherwise? dont get SSS. its a rip off.

Mine does the same thing. I know how to avoid it I just can't explain it, but it probably has to do with the turbo. Funny, this is my first turbo car and I don't notice any difference between driving a turbo and driving a NA car. Only thing I notice about the evo is it drops anchor at about 5k RPM's and doesn't seem to have anymore power. But I am hoping that changes when I add the Test Pipe, AMS DP and 3 port to go along with the ETS intake and UR cat back, along with the RRE tune.

Nice Evo BTW. What are your first MOD plans? Going to take any of those badges off the back? I took the LANCER and MITSUBISHI off first thing. So easy with a hair dryer and dental floss. My first MOD was GTWorx springs, RCK and Rear Sway. Made such a huge difference in handling and looks.

Both of the issues you are asking about are normal, these cars run rich and when you go partial throttle and let off sometimes it stumbles over the extra fuel.

As far as the idle, its a mitsu thing, I've never had a mitsu that idled 100% steady.

Car looks great, I almost leased an Evo as well, I'm glad I purchased it though as I'm already getting the itch to mod it lol.

And I would certainly consider a different tire for the winter, even if you bought a set of used snow tires, or even just all seasons. The stock advans are not going to treat you nicely in the snow.

I don't think he is planning on modding since its a lease, I agree though the trunk does look much better debadged.

I was curious why mine felt like it fell flat when it got close to redline too, so I did some digging and found out the boost spikes to 22psi and tapers all the way down to 12 psi by redline so thats why it feels like it runs out of steam. Just a boost controller and a tune will fix that problem.

you can mod your lease

you would just need to do the following:

Buy you car at the end of the lease.
Or put it back to stock and turn the car in.

Awesome pictures man! Glad you ended up with the Evo X. It's a great car and with minor bolt on's makes damn good power!

Thanks guys. I figured the stutter and idle were both normal but figured it wouldn't hurt to check. I debadged my previous car with dental floss and a hair dryer and it was extremely easy and clean. Didn't even think about doing it until you mentioned it so I will probably do it tomorrow haha. I'm sure I can easily stick them back on when the lease is up. There is a BIG possibility I will buy the car after the lease. If I decide that I am gonna do that, I will definitely start modding. I would do just bolt-ons and a tune, nothing more. 350whp is plenty for me as a daily driver. I guess I should get myself some snow tires soon... they are just so damn expensive. I'm very happy I got the SS package. HIDs are great, sound system is decent and the FAST key is nice.

Mine is leased and I have already modded and plan to go all the way. I can buy it at the end, right?

First off, congrats. You will love the car.

The idle is completely normal. The "jerkiness" stuff is also normal. You just have to learn to become smoother with the gas pedal. It takes a little getting used to.

And yea, the X kind of falls on its face in higher RPMs. But a few mods and a tune solves everything.

Also, this is stupid advice.. Number one, there is nothing different about the seats. I guess I can kind of agree on the RF stereo thing.. It might not be the best, but the hids are well worth the package. It is extremely hard to put in aftermarket hids and have them function like stock with projector headlights. You would have to buy hids, new headlights, headlight adjustment switch, take the time to set everything up, etc.. And then you still wouldn't have the fast key, which is awesome by itself.. I wouldn't buy an Evo without the SSS package- or now the SS package, since the X comes standard with the large spoiler now.

Thats where I picked my IX up last year, the guys there are pretty cool. I went after Hurricane Irene and there were about 20+ cars, including a few evo's and one STI, that were flooded out. It was a sad sight, fortunately my IX arrived a day or two after the hurricane passed.

Couldn't agree with you more. SS Package was 100% worth it. I put aftermarket HIDs on my RSX and had nothing but problems with them. They were supposed to be the best HIDs I could get and even had a lifetime warranty but that still doesn't mean they won't malfunction, which they did ALL the time. As far as the jerky ride, I have only felt it a few times and already can easily drive without it happening.

Hahaha, I bet I will be in the same boat as you real soon. When a simple tune and basic bolt-ons can give you so much power, how could anyone not be tempted?
