Info before buying an 08

Well it's been a while since I've been in the Evo game and I have never owned an X before, so I thought I'd ask for some help.

I am looking at purchasing an 08 Evo, it has 48K miles and seems to be in pretty decent shape. It does have an exhaust and an intake/BOV set up, but that's all. I was wondering what I should look at more in depth before actually buying this car... Carfax is clean but the carfax did say there was an open recall for the car. What should I be looking into or know about the 08's.

Thanks in advance!

I still have my 2008. I have never had a single issue with the car.

I would replace the fuel pump relay on the car ASAP if I bought it. The relay can be faulty and cause problems with running lean. It's only about $20..

They will mention the timing chain. There have been some issues with the timing stretching on the models from 2008-2010, and maybe some 2011s are affected as well.. The timing chain was redesigned in 2011. Just like a timing belt, if that goes, you are in trouble, but most people have never had a problem. Some 2008's also had a small oil leak from around the timing chain cover. I think it was a gasket or something that caused it. It can be fixed pretty easily.

I think that's about it. My 2008 is a very early production model and I have never seen any of the issues that I posted about. I take car of my car and keep up with the maintenance VERY regularly. If you do that, you should be fine..

Since you have an 8, you know that an aftermarket BOV can cause idle issues and what not..
