I run my stock trans at 9k and it feels pretty buttery smooth. And I am pretty sure ETS was doing 10k rpms on their stock trans, no dogbox.

I don't know that a dogbox is necessary at higher revs, preferable maybe.

Who knows how long it will last.

I have been at 9k rev limits for about 13k miles.

ETS did tons of dyno time, track time and street driving but no idea how often they hit 10k rpms.

The trans isn't designed for those levels and even if people can rev that high typically we don't do it unless its needed, aka the track. So the length of time something works/lasts at that high of an rpm is, to me anyway, unknown on the X, too many variables.

Right, I mean I never get to revs that high on my built motor anyways.

the more you stress the engine, transmission, etc, heck... even tires, the more likely it is going to go out. shift at 7500rpm 200times a day, or shift at 12,000rpm one time a day.

threads like these really doesn't have to go on. its everywhere in the web.

Agreed. If a shop has proof that 9k is a definite limit, I would love to see information on that. I'm an "interesting stuff" kinda nerd.

With a built block, what kind of wtq numbers are safe on the drivetrain

Really depends on your driving skills. More power just gives you more ability to break stuff if you launch it wrong. It will take a LOT of torque to rip your transmission/transfer case/driveshaft/rear diff apart if you're just doing a pull in a gear. If it's gonna break, it's gonna do it on a launch, and then it's going to depend on your skill, your tires, your clutch, all sorts of stuff. There's not a magic number.

If you're spending the money to get to a point where you're worrying about it, spending a bit more to build the transmission probably isn't a big deal to you.

Simplified....

Drive like a tard = Break stuff

Drive like a normal person = it will last
