Evo x Buying Yes or no

I have a dealer who offered me 23,000$ on an evo gsr 2010 with only 13,000 miles but problem is he says the car has been tuned a lot so i cant buy the car yet because they are putting the car back to stock as in they are putting back the original parts on it.

Should i buy this car or not as in if i get this car would i be able to tune it and would it break down a lot since it has been worked on so much.

Sounds shady to me. Dealers don't just sell cars cheap for the fun of it; if it's too cheap, then they probably picked it up damaged from an auction, has a flawed title, etc.

Are they going to honor the remainder of the factory warranty? If yes then I wouldn't worry about it as much. If no then that's your answer right there.

If it sounds too good, there is a 90% percent chance there is something wrong.

First red flag: It's a dealer.
Second red flag: It's a dealer with an "explanation" that makes no sense.
Third red flag: It's a dealer, giving you a good "price"

Keep in mind for them to sell it to you @ 23K, they had to have acquired it cheap enough to turn a profit at that price. Unless the car is a salvage pile or blown up, who would let a car like that go for what 03 VIII's go for.

Walk away. Learn from mistakes I've made. "Stories" like that when selling cars are usually bull.

Don't do it. Your better off getting a used one from a performance shop, at least the shop checked it out

If you do get it make sure you get a paper that they sign saying that those aftermarket parts will not void the warranty or else they will make you sign it the other way saying it will void warranty.

however most used car dealers sale cars "as is". and you would be responsible for the repairs

There is one interpretation that both makes sense and suggests that the dealer isn't as shady as you all are saying: the non-OE part that needs to be put back is the cat.

If the plan is to modify the car, yourself, then this could be a good option because you wouldn't waste emotion on "blowing the warranty" because it isn't going to have one ... at least, not on the drivetrain.

is the dealership tuning it back to stock as well? Isn't that what most people have issues with? mods removed but the tune stays the same?

Pure3Owner,

I know it's tempting but I agree with the other posters on here. WALK AWAY man. There will be other Evos out there so don't make a bad decision because you're impatient. For example, I got my used BONE STOCK 2010 GSR w/24,000 miles on it from a private seller for $26K. There's another guy on another thread who just got a BONE STOCK 2011 GSR w/4,000 miles on it from a DEALERSHIP for $24K OUT THE DOOR (lease repo car). I've seen other posters able to get 2010-2012 Evo Xs for 25-27K. If you are patient, something will come along. The other posters got it right when they suggested getting everything IN WRITING. If I were you and wanted to buy that car, I would offer like $17,500 as is. If you have it inspected by a Mitsu dealership, they can tell you what shape its in. If they give it the green light, I would come up in price but prob only to 20K, keeping in mind that the warranty on the car is probably GONE. If the warranty is still good, THEN I would come up to the 23K they are asking.
