Evo is a fine machine bar none and if u can grab 1 do it. But to justify cost of repairs to that of a bmw or audi then maybe u should by a genesis coupe and move on
I don't think I'd call a random BMW 3 series or Audi A3 "world class". They are just brands with an image. They also aren't known for reliability these days at all. That's Lexus and Porsche. I don't think people are talking about replacing interior components, they're talking about drivetrain stuff where an Evo has a much better argument for claiming to be "world class".

There's also a difference between part failures being expensive and regular scheduled maintenance being expensive.

The ralliart is a more down to earth choice
Yeah....but its a Ralliart, you'd be far better off with a WRX

Any Evo X is 10x better than a Ralliart, new or used.

Some people are stupid if they think its a waste of money to use the Evo as a DD.

I honestly don't find it that expensive of a car to own, maintenance wise.

Just picked up my 2013 wrx today!! I decided to keep te Evo since I went ahead a fixed the struts and the heat works now, just the a/c doesn't so ill have to see what's up with that.

But the wrx is amazing I plan to keep mostly stock and hold on to this warranty as long as possible.

Got the 5 door, white with 5 miles on it lol wasn't making that mistake again. I was really torn cause at one point I almost bit the bullet on a 2012 Sti they had there but I had this gut feeling not to, plus I would have been murdered when I arrived home. Also factor in the fact that i gotten used to not having any car payments every month. I was looking for least amount a month. Least to say I'm happy with my decision- what I'm most afraid now is my girlfriend is going to kill me when I get home For getting another car ( lol told her i was going to look ) She's gonna have to deal with it.

Payments aren't bad either , about $260 a month. Now maybe I can convince her for some coilovers

Considered a WRX based on its performance vs cost aspect but the #4 and oil pickup issues steered me away. Overall though they are nice cars...

Oil pickup was mainly in the 06', I came from the STI world.

It is probably less common than a stretched timing chain on an Evo.

WRX's don't seem to be affected as badly by the ringland failures.

Brakes is what I wish I had with my WRXs, and my buddy with his 2012 wishes the same. That'd be the one upgrade I'd make, followed by a rear sway which does wonders for Subarus.

For 5 years and 100k miles, that's nothing for a sports car. You need to go buy a BMW, MB, or Range Rover, or Porsche, then come back and tell us how crappy you think Evo's are (yup, I've owned them all)
My friend just spent $2500 on a new water pump and some tranny part on his BMW w 50k miles all out of pocket.

The 2008's had several known issues. In fact a contributing factor to the absence of the 2009 Evo. They had timing chain stretching issues, AWC pump problems (in cold climates), and weak diff pins. Those problems have since been addressed.

*note this isn't the entire reason there was no 2009 Evo. The 2008 Evo arrived part way through the model year. Because of this there there was a surplus.

no issues with my E85 BBXed 08 with 51k miles (mine was first batch into the USA), still riding stock clutch. Seems you just got unlucky.

Not true, I know someone who just had an ACD failure and diff pin failure on their '11.

Also the ACD pump has no been changed FYI.

Well, this doesn't make me feel good about driving my '08. Although it has been trouble free for me, I might start seeing a lot of problems show up after I read this thread. lol
