of course with a performance sports car we can't really expect it to have the life of a Camry can we?

Well now, there you go making sense and being reasonable

I am actually amazed at how trouble free my 99.5k miles were. From a lot of the comments on this forum I was starting to think that I am the only one who is amazed that I can buy a $40k car that will whip performance cars costing twice as much (or over three times as much if you put $5k into it). As a bonus, put winter tires on it and it is a Tank on ice and snow.

No, I really wouldn't expect that to last like a Camry, but with regular maintenance and upkeep, they come very close in that department also. I hope my new one treats me as well as my horribly flawed first model year cursed 2008 did!

I wouldnt say that.. mostly only people with problems will post in the forums. All the other that are trouble free you'll never hear of.
I can understand things like the ASC pump failing after 4 or 5 years, but mechanically the car should be sound for many years to come unless you beat the crap out of it or are neglectful with maintenance.

Posts like this make prospective Evo owners nervous I know this is not 'typical' of an Evo, but I still can't help but worry when spending over 35k on the car alone.

OP said the engine was the one thing that didn't give up, so I would assume it didn't need to be changed. I'm sure if OP did it would have been noted, since changing the timing chain is not cheap by any means.

I actually think the Evos will break down if you don't abuse it. Seems like it's the masochist type of car that gets better the harder you push and twist it. If you baby it, seems like the opposite happens - it breaks down, stuff blows up, etc. Think about how for the first 1000 miles we're supposed to rev all the way up to 5k every shift to make sure the seals are good. I DD my X but every once in a while I'd give it a workout to keep it in top shape. Might be odd to treat a car like that but it works for me, at least.

My maintenance schedule has been on the aggressive side since I got the car: 5k oil changes, trans and diff oil once a year (so about 12-15k). DD or not, I'd rather follow this and not risk destroying expensive components.

Regarding maintenance, I sort of miss my old Toyota...that thing is boring, but that car lasted longer than the energizer bunny, with almost zero maintenance outside of oil changes. Hell, the trans oil was in there for like 70k

Is this a fluke?
I have settled on an EvoX to buy. More research is needed. I have a feeling that most vehicles do not have such bad luck

Is there a poll somewhere that list how many miles someone had on their Evo x before it crapped out? I know The old Honda accords keep chugging along even after 200,000 miles?

It depends on the definition of "crapped out". I'd usually take that to mean "broken to the point it'd cost more to fix than the car is worth". Given the age of Evo X's, that'd be pretty damn broken, and not something that would happen without abuse.

Interesting post.
Am sorry to hear about the many problems which you face. You really do good efforts to maintain. I think now your decision to buy a 2013 Subaru WRX is awesome. i think this model is so good and comfortable and hope you can enjoy driving 2013 Subaru WRX.

Well been working so haven't had a chance to really such around evom but I am using my X as a daily now. The WRX had been sitting for about a month now. The X has returned to life after I replaced my struts and shocks and tires I would have to say 90% of all knocks, creaks, pops have disappeared. Im at about 109xxx now and shes pulling hard. Knock on wood all my troubles are behind.

As for the WRX I just installed a COBB Catback/intake and Acessport. That's it for now. The WRX is still a blast to drive and as I get older im loving the hatchback look.

But not trying to detract anyone from the X. I was just on a rant because problems felt like they were persistent. Deep down I love the car and will proberly get a 8 in the near future when im done with this one.

Sorry for the trouble you ran into OP. I, like another member on here, purchased an 08 G37. I learned the hard way that I will NEVER again buy the first year production model. This is how I ended up in my 13 GSR.

I did tons of research before stepping into an X. Although some of the issues that I've read about caused me to be a bit apprehensive at first, I still went for it. When you think about it, the only time someone posts about their issue, is when they have one. I'm sure there are tons of people on here running trouble free.
