105000 miles evo x review
I'm selling my 04 r32 to pick up a 2010 evo x gsr and this thread makes me feel very nervous about it now. I was debating between the evo x and 11+ sti but I had a local shop which works on both cars for nasa and scca drivers tell me the evo is more reliable and cheaper to fix than the sti. I know most of you said this is an 08 problem but I wonder how many of these still exist on the 10-12 evo Xs...maybe I should stay in vw and get the golf r for a fun dd

Plenty of people have X's with zero problems. Myself included.

Thanks for the encouragement. My first car was a 240sx that I dumped 10k into and then get rid of because I was tired of having a heavily modified car that ran into major issues with emissions. Gave up on cars and went to an a4 for a bit and then got bit by the car bug because of all my friends that auto x so bought the R32. German cars definitely are nice but are really expensive to take care of sometimes aren't worth it as much. I definitely wanted to keep awd for the winters in IL since I DD all my cars so that's why I wanted to move onto an evo or sti for the more fun factor. I have no problem taking care of a car with extra maintenance since that's what all german cars require as well but I guess I'm concerned with reliability issues. The shop I spoke to like I said assured me that the evo x was a good car even as you mod as long as you keep checking certain things which is why they have one for their shop race car.
Take it from a member of the STI community and former EVO X owner. The EVO is the better built car. GR STI owners are lucky to have their original engine last past 50,000 miles as the engines are ultra-fragile. My STI feels after a few months like it's 10 years old with all the squeeks and rattles.
Oh wow really? When I drove the STI from the local stealership I thought the interior was actually nicer than the evo Xs. Seemed higher quality and reminded me of my VW interior a bit. I liked that the sti had rear seats that folded down since the evo trunk is freakin tiny but when the shop I talked to told me how much more expensive it was to maintain the boxster motor I said forget it I'll live with a small trunk and went for an evo. I'll be picking up a 2010 evo x from a forum member in RI very soon. I hope to learn a lot from you guys on the forums.

On first glance it looks better inside than a GSR for sure but the A-pillar rattle is inevitable as is the rear deck rattle to which I had both on my drive home from the dealer picking up the car. EVO has some of the rattle issues but my 2008 MR was quiet inside after two years. I also have the dreaded clutch pedal popping (google that phrase) which is likely due to one of the firewall spot welds broken. The STI simply doesn't feel like as solid or sturdy a vehicle. It also is slower and not as sharp a handling car. There are some things I like about it in that it has a nicer street ride and it's probably a better overall daily driver but it's kind of morphed into less of a hardcore performance car and more of utility car that can do a bit of everything.
So what you're really trying to tell us is upgrade to the latest model every 50k miles... Honestly $7k over 100k miles doesn't seem that bad imo, the AYC pump failing twice in 10k seems like the strangest thing.

It's a warranty fix and I will get it addressed as my first service. The reason I didn't go back to the EVO is because I'm in Canada. Our GSR's are total strippers here with no availability of HID's, NAV, etc. A complete base GSR with no options that lists at $42k and base MR's start at $49k. To make things worse dealers here won't budge on price. Meanwhile I can get into a loaded STI Sedan with HID, NAV, sunroof, etc for the same price as a no-option GSR and Subaru dealers will move a little on price so I get it even cheaper. It's kind of a no-brainer unless you absolutely have to have an EVO. Basically I'm driving an STI because Mitsubishi Motors Canada are complete blundering idiots.
