Weird rivot or metal piece passenger rear panel

I bought my car a few months ago and never noticed this until a few days ago? Did this rivet or metal piece come on the car from the factory? I checked the drivers side and it was not present there. The location is like where the water drips out and I am nervous because it looks like it is beginning to rust.

Would this be something that would be covered under my warranty? I dont understand if this is from the factory why they would put this here.

The first picture is a far shot of the panel so you can see location. Second photo is a close shot.

cant tell where it is...how about a discription and anther shot of the surrounding area-- rt now it looks like the subframe and just a hole. Rust, well I can see the snow all around it, so that speaks to that issue.

sorry its way to cold/snowy to snag an actualy pic but I circled where it is located on this image from google. Also it isnt a hole. Is is like a piece of metal almost like the head of a nail but definitly not a nail.

It looks as though the hole in on the passenger side rear door sill. It's not supposed to be there. It looks as though it was drilled to get access to a dent or dimple behind the rear passenger side quarter panel, so that it could be repaired. I've seen paintless body repair operators do that on occasion. Horrible place to drill a hole! If you bought the car new, I'd take it back to the dealership where you bought it from and complain. But be prepared for them to deny, deny, deny. The only way to get that fixed would be to have it spot welded and repainted. I feel for you. Another reason why it's so important to inspect every inch of the car upon delivery, when buying new from the dealer.

i *bet* there was a ding in that door ...that looks like a 'dent pro' drill hole. if its not there on the other side, then that probably what it may be...they use a small tool and insert it inside to take out small dings. they usually plug it with a small rubber plug, but it may have fallen out....
