Evo x maintenance

How much does it cost to maintain an Evo x like a month if I only drive about 50 miles a week or a little less. And do they break often if I take good care of it? Cause a lot of people keep on telling me they break down a lot.

If you're concerned about cost of ownership, you may think about owning any performance car. Performance cars aren't cheap, and owning them doesn't just mean you make a monthly payment and call it good. Brakes, tires, rotors, oil, batteries, gas, all of these things cost more on performance cars.

As to whether they break? Depends on if you beat on your car or not. As far as the engine it self? The Lancer (not ralliart and Evo) was named the most reliable car over the last 15 years. And the Outlander Sport was recommended by consumer reports 2 years in a row because of its reliability. That said, it's the same base 4b11 engine, it's not the same car by any means.

However, if you talk to the guy who tuned my car, he'll tell you he does a lot more repairs on Subarus than he does with Mitsus

Yeah cause my friends keep on trying to scare me telling me that the car can't handle it's own power and that the engine blows up and they always break down he also told me he seen 5 evos blow on drag racing but I won't be drag racing cause I know they aren't made for that I want it for fun I love the look and it snows a lot here so I love driving in snow.

Compared to Bimmers and MB, Evos and the like are considered low maintenance. You need to keep up with regular requirements (oil changes, tranny, differential t-case fluid changes) and if you don't do over the top modding or running it into a wall, it should be relatively trouble free.

53k miles here on my 2008. Bought it brand new. Have had zero problems thus far. Clutch finally started to slip recently due to all my track time (which was expected). Overall I'd say very reliable.

Slight off topic...xo0p have you done anything regarding the '08 diff pin issue? Or has it not given you any indication of troubles

The diff pin issues were really only apparent when you launched your car too much. You can drive them pretty hard still, and be just fine if you're not launching it.

Gotcha. I guess a lot of people are launching to have caused this problem. At one point it seems like ALL '08s are having this problem across the board

Anyway back to topic for OP.

Not to say it's otherwise impervious to problems, or that launching is the only cause of the issue. But it seems to exacerbate the problem.

If you happen to be doing work to an 08, you might as well upgrade the diff pin. If you're not going to launch the car, I wouldn't be too concerned about it until you notice a problem.

I didn't realize there was an diff pin issue, but I have not noticed anything out of the norm. I've only launched the car about 10 times max? Mainly used for spirited driving as my DD. But as far as MX goes, I've done all the fluid changes a lot earlier than the service requires because of how hard I drive it. Hopefully the car stays as reliable as it has been the last 4 years.

to the OP, anything will last as long as you take care of it. Theres the rare case of getting a lemon but just take care of your things and they will take care of you.

/e

Just to give you an idea, the labor cost alone on a clutch install is anywhere from 700-1300$ depending on where you take it. Not trying to scare you but it's not cheap to maintain this car. As goes with any other performance car.
