I think I bought bent wheels..

Well, last weekend I bought some wheels off a member here. I drove about 2.5 hours and met him and picked them up. I was hurrying and didnt look at the wheels a lot when I picked them up, payed $2000 in money orders and then ran back home. I was rushing as I was already late for an appointment. The wheels stayed in the garage until Wed night.

This week I order lugs, and when the lugs came in I put the wheels on. I got sick and didn't drive the car until Friday. I immediately noticed something funny and figured the wheels were out of balance. I texted the guy I bought them from and asked if any of the wheels were bent.. He texted me back "not that I know of".. I figured ok, he seemed like a good guy. Anyway, I drove the car again today and it just felt funny. So I started looking at all the wheels closely.

This wheels def seems bent in this pic.

I'm sure there isn't anything I can do right? I mean I should have checked them closer when I bought them.. He can just say he didn't know about it or blame me.. I knew they weren't in the best shape with some curb rash, but I they would atleast be straight.

Just sucks when I just paid $2000 and will prolly have to buy atleast 1 new one. No telling what else I got..

Wouldn't hurt to politely confront him on it. If he's a good person, he'll help you out. Maybe ask if he would go halves on a new wheel or halves on getting it repaired. Does his ad say they are perfect?

looks bent to me at 12 and 2 o clock. the curbage backs that up.

i saw that ad. it's hard to see the bend due to the angle but it's there.

you may be able to get that wheel rebalanced to minimize or eliminate the shake. i had that on a wheel years ago and it rode ok. i would reinspect for any hairline cracks though.

You take it man. Definitely would've taken being late for an appointment to make sure the $2000 wheels were in good shape.

Yea I know I should have checked them. I was rushing and just figured the only damage was the curb rash. Actually, looking at these pics, I can't believe I didn't notice when I picked them up.

I haven't asked him for any cash back or anything, and I prolly won't because it really is my fault. I'm just surprised that he says that he doesn't know any wheels are bent. I could tell within 1 mile something was up.. And I think I've put a total of 10 miles on them since I put them on and it is very noticeable.

I will get the wheel repaired it can be, but I'm honestly out of cash at the moment- at least to spend on the car.. And I don't even know of a place around here that could fix a bend so I would have to send it off..

We did something similar... Drove all the way to Lititz, PA from Baltimore and the first car deal we set up fell through since the dealer wanted to add extra terms so we ended up going to Keller Bros Dodge where we found a RR 08 Evo X with 16k miles for $30k. We test drove it, but didn't go very fast so the issue wasn't noticed at first, but after the deal was done and we were coming home, there was a noticeable shake. Upon inspection at daylight the next day, we noticed the rims were slightly bent on 3 of the 4 rims... The dealer took no responsibility and said we must have hit pot holes, which was total bs..! Anyway, we found that we could fix the rims for a few hundred, but there is always a chance of cracking it while it's being heated and reformed. Idk... You may want to take them to a good rim shop locally and have them see if they think it can be fixed. I would ask the guy you bought it from for the estimate of the repair and if they don't think it can be fixed, ask for the repair amount to use towards a new rim..? Good luck!

This is the reason I cannot spend 2+ grand on volks or any other JDM wheel, one bad pothole. Rotas have the exact same rating of JWL as rays and enkeis, and if I bust a wheel I can buy another set of 4 for same amount as it costs people to replace one volk.

Its definitely your responsibility to inspect the wheels but I really feel strongly that people just need to be honest and there is absolutely no way in hell the seller didn't know that wheel was bent. If he didn't mention it to you, that is shady and you should at least ask him to go halves with you on getting it replaced or repaired. Worst that can happen is that he says no.

Last time I sold a set of wheels, I pointed out every single defect to the buyer so that they could make an informed decision and so I could sleep at night. I guess I have a conscience. Go figure...

No way in hell seller didn't notice these were bent. False advertising, he said curbed wherein he should have said bent. Money don't grow on trees you know.

Call up local wheel repair places. That doesnt look TOO bad. Hopefully you can get it fixed up (and that rash while your at it) without having to buy a new rim.

Well thats the whole point I bet you can afford a set but would never want to buy it twice. If the car is a DD I would never spend more than $1200 for a set of wheels.

Always try to not make a deal in hurry and take time and check your product properly and when satisfied then buy and pay. Anyway your problem is not much worried and easily solved...
