First oil change coupon

I have received a new owner booklet from Mitsubishi in mail. In the back, it has the roadside card and a coupon for a free oil change and a electronic check of my car (or something a long those lines). My car has bolt-ons and the ecu is tuned. Is this a trap? Would my warranty be voided if they run this electronic check? Should I just spend the $60 and get it done somewhere else?

The fact you have bolt ons will void your warranty, at least that's the way my dealer sees it...best to just not use it

A warranty can not be outright voided, per the Federal Trade Commission. You also can't deny a claim unless you can prove that the reason for the failure is a result of a) aftermarket parts b) misuse c) abuse. Individual claims can be denied. Once a claim is denied (say a power train claim) due to mods then it is very easy to deny any subsequent ones (giving the "appearance" or a voided warranty).

change youre own oil with regular 10w30 and filter and know its done rite. you dongt need synthetic, dont believe the hype and save your money, thank me later when you have money in your wallet and others dont.

if you take it to the dealer they will crosstread the bolt and leave the filter lose. do it rite yourself.

In addition, they can't just look at your car and go "well your warranty is f'ed." They have to prove mods caused a problem. The simple presence of mods doesn't mean crap, nor do dealerships keep record of the fact that your car is modded. Furthermore, the dealer can't deny any claims, its not their call. Mitsubishi is the one paying for any warranty claims. So the dealer knowing your car is modded doesn't mean dick.

OP, just change your own oil, no its not a trap but after they see your mods they can make note of it for a future warranty claim. I'm only going to say this once as it has been covered SEVERAL times over. Use synthetic oil. End. Of. Story.

How long after you bought your car until you received your coupon? I haven't received mine yet... hmm

Just take it to South Coast or HB Mitsu and you'll be fine. They're mod friendly.

I remember a time when trolling used to mean something.

Here is the pic of the coupon. It arrived about a month after I got the car. It says to go to Glendale Mitsu, where I bought my car.
Since this coupon is good until August and I was on the fence today, I took it to my local Mobil 1 place and paid for the 5W30 Synthetic. I know the synthetic vs conv. has been covered before and I'm personally set at synthetic. (even though the Mitsu dealer told me conv. oil for 2013)
I'm also familiar with the warranty act, but this computerized inspection report worried me.
I know it's the cheapest to do your own oil change, but i don't like to do it, personal preference, I did wax the car with carnauba wax though, which I enjoy.

South Coast is too far for an oil change.

I dont think you need the coupon. I had my first oil changed at the dealer and it was just in their system that I get my first oil changed for free. I didnt have a physical coupon with me. But that oil change is for conventional oil so I had to pay the difference for the synthetic.

I got that coupon also. I do my own oil changes. So I don't need it. And I'm not modded at all.

I claimed my free oil change coupon back in 2010 when I bought my car. I do all my own oil changes too, but it's basically a free $30, no reason not to use it unless you really far away from the dealership, in which case just save it b/c eventually you'll probably need to take it in for warranty work of some sort.
