Wife Gone This Weekend...Time for a couple Mods?

I've got an '11 MR with only an AEM intake installed. I was thinking of ordering something today that I could install this weekend while she's out. I was thinking a 3 port from Cobb and and Access Port. Possibly a HFC and UICP kit

Will the Accessport make a have some maps that are better than stock for only a few mods?

Thoughts?

I have a 12 GSR but I have an AP curently im not running a map at the moment. I would check COBB's site and look under beta maps because I think they are still in beta for your car "they are in mine". If they have maps for your car I 100 percent reccomend the ap.

OK - Thanks - Can you explain what Beta means? I'm not real familiar with the term. I saw on Cobb's site, that for my car, everything available was Beta.

Nevermind - just talked to Jon at Cobb - I'm clear on what Beta means. Makes sense now. They don't have an official OTS tune for my AEM intake. May wait on the AP a little longer and install a HFC plus UICP setup this weekend.

Can I run those items on a stock tune?

Is it worth upgrading the DP or keep the stock unit and just replace the Cat? I've heard it's a ***** to remove.

Taking off a downpipe is definitely a job that takes some motivation and inspiration. Took me about 5/6 hours, with a lift. Some of the bolts come off easy, while others might break. Upgrading your downpipe will definately free up some ponies along with potential HP in a future tune.

You will see a benefit from replacing your upper intercooler pipe.

Is the DP easier to replace than a full O2 housing/DP combo?

Yes, the 02 housing is much more difficult than just doing the downpipe. Most aftermarket replacements combine the two so you usually have to tackle both.

I'm not looking to upgrade the turbo, maybe it would be best to simply install the Cobb DP and Test Pipe and leave the stock O2 housing intact. That should be a little easier.

On second thought, I just looked at a bunch of pics from google, comparing the stock O2/DP to aftermarket types, and it looks like if I'm gonna do it, might as well, go all out and replace both as just the DP isn't doing much

No need to do any downpipe on a stock turbo, however if you do be sure to get a full o2 downpipe. The ones that don't combine the o2 are worthless.

I'd get a catback exhaust before the hfc because the stock muffler is actually extremely restrictive as well. Then do a test pipe/hfc after.

And an UICP is definitely a good idea as well.

Thanks for the advice - I thought the stock cat was the most restrictive thing, not the stock cat-back. Maybe a change of plan.

Maybe a Cat-Back - I was thinking Buschur or Magnaflow for more of a stock sound & a HFC setup will suit me just right

There's a constant debate as to which is more restrictive, the cat or the muffler. I just say do the catback first because it's better to go from restrictive to free flowing, rather than restrictive to free flowing back to restrictive.

It's just common practice to move from the back to the front when modifying exhausts.

If you do get a 3port and install it, don't drive the car until you have it tuned for the 3port... otherwise you will cause a complete mess due to overboosting
