Thanks everyone for your replies and direction. One last question where I am still getting confused.. does an iX = Evo 9 and the x = Evo 10?

Now, that being said, the evo IX's drivetrain does the job more than well enough, however, it did not come with ayc or a properly assembled rear diff like the evo X's did, which are both features that promote oversteer. Now, by upgrading the rear diff of a IX you can make it handle like a X, only it would be lighter, allowing you to brake later.
he is correct... the evo has an open front and center diff... and the rear diff is an lsd. these aren't very effective... the evo's that set great track times usually have upgraded diffs and more then a few remove the acd system and ayc system if equipped. and abs? don't even think about abs on the track... hell removing brake boosts is a current trend. whenever you think motorsports dont use it to back up whether or not a oem car is up to the challenge...

i have not heard about the ix being more popular then the X... in my opinion it is the best model to date... but i'm bias'd and the guy asking the question isn't as hard core as some of us. I don't have heat, ac , wipers, or basically anything that the car had when i bought it new in 06...

I understand wha you guys are saying, but the fact remains that even Top Gear UK, whos opinion i trust more than yours, no offence, says its the best handling awd car they have driven, should say a lot, considering they drive porsche turbos, awd gallardos, r8s, gtrs, ect. Im not saying you are wrong either, i think we just disagree on the key fact that the evo x stock vs stock or upgraded vs upgraded handles better in a sense it oversteers properly like a rwd car and the 9s understeer even after being upgraded... im not knocking the 9, i also love evos in general. My poibt is they didnt make the s awc to make the evo a worse car, but yes they did splurge the creature comforts which is a bad thing, but they did it to try and sell to a broader demographic, because we all know mitsu isnt doing so hot in north america currently

I know this isnt evo 9 vs x but it basically sums up what im saying. The evo 9s werent as good as the old stis, but now the new evo is better than the new sti.... you can put 2 and 2 together

Where both you and the OP should be.

I don't want to get into the long, drawn out discussion about all of this again, so you can check out everything that's been posted here. If you're getting your info from this forum you're reading further misinformation or you haven't looked at enough

So the biggest downfall would be the open front and center diff correct?

only the early 8's had open front diff and a viscous center diff.

later 8s and 9s come with a helical front diff and the ACD as well.

So explain who decides what misinformation is. Is Top Gears opinion misinformation? Im not acting like i know technical specifications about evos. My claim was the evo x is a better handling car than the 8 or 9. And honestly that can be an opinion depending on how you look at it. But in general, it is agreed the evo x is the better handling vehicle.

This was taken from the thread YOU posted
Stereo: X > VIII
Braking: X > VIII
Handling: X > VIII
0-60: X < VIII
15-100: X > VIII
1/4 mile: ???? = ????
0-150: X > VIII
Steering Wheel Feel: X < VIII
Steering Wheel Position: X < VIII
Steering Response: X > VIII
Engine Sound: X < VIII
Tranny: X > VIII
Clutch: X < VIII

And we all know 8s and 9s to be very similar, except the early 8s.

Another thing, talk about misinformation filled threads. Thats a complete flame war thread where misinformation is throw around more than a hooker in las vegas...

Found it on page 51. And read all the follow up posts as well. Nuff said
