Intake experts as well as tuning gurus

Ok I have searched for about 5 hours and read all of the airbox vs cone debates and so on. I have an AEM dry flow that I want to put on my car this weekend, however I do not have a heat shield yet.

My question is one, was there ever a conclusion on putting a cone filter inside the airbox. ( I seen/read a thread about this in 2010), and two if that cannot be achieved safely, can I keep the front half of the box installed to keep the heat away until other shielding arrangements come?

i've been searching myself. i'm not trying to do anything to crazy but i resolved myself to most likely purchase the injen system that comes with the UICP, the Greddy, or K&N. I have the MR so i dont believe the K&N will work with my car but they fit the GSR all day. I'm sure there are alot of other mods that will give you bigger benefits though.
good luck!

Well I already have the AEM from my VIII. I jut never used it before I got rid of it. So until I can get a brand name uicp and intake ($) . I wanted to put it on to see if it helped any with TR or mpg. I just want to make sure that I can leave the front part othe box to block the fan air, or enclose the filter in the box completely.

I have a cobb intake on mine with the front half of the air box. When running the A/C I do get idle surge. I do have a universal heat shield from summit that was recommended from a thread on here that I will be installing as soon as I trim it up a bit.

nope. Just got the sound of the BOV. Pairing the intake with my Cobb accessport gave me the power increase.

Is the power increase the same as going full open filter with heat shield I wonder? Hmmm you would think the front piece would protect it enough from the air pressure differences.

Evo x cai

If you are after a true CAI that pulls in air with IAT close to ambient, AEM would be your choice.
