I am having problems holding boost above 6k. I have my boost controller set in at 22lbs, but after 6k in about every gear the boost drops to about 17lbs? I've been reading about people having problems with the snorkel, and i am using a cone air filter in place of the stock airbox and have removed the snorkel completely. Should i put this back on, even with my aftermarket intake?

 

It's normal for boost to taper off on the stock turbo.

 

332 whp and 347 wtq with those mods on a o3? thats crazy.. if possible

 

He only has that power on race gas and big boost.

OP, you're totally confused about the snorkel problem. That only happens if you have the stock intake and are using the snorkel. Tapering to 17psi is not a "problem."

it is supposed to drop off that much? I was thinking i had a boost leak of some sort. I went out to the track and ran a 12.91@108mph on my race tune with a 1.8 60ft. I talked to John about it, and he said it should be trapping well above 110. It just doesnt feel like its pulling any harder after 6k.

 

my hunch is you have a minor boost leak.... so im gonna assume u have the 03 evo..... so go buy the metal bov (jdm or evo9).. will help the taper slightly and also get some tbolt clamps for all ur IC piping atleast

 

YOu have basic mods on an 03. Trapping 108 is about normal for those mods on an 03 with 110 being above average assuming 93oct.

 

this was on race gas, 100 octane unleaded. I have the turbosmart dualport bov, but i have it set to full recirc. I did a boost leak check last week and didn't find any leaks.
