First Time Owner Roadmap
First Time Owner Roadmap
Hey guys, even though my join date says 09 i have been pretty much a lurker here. I've been saving up for a while through college and now that I have graduated and entered the working world the saving has become a little easier and my dream car is getting ever so closer. I have had my eyes on an EVO X in WW for some time now. Now that obtaining the car is coming closer to becoming a reality i have also started to focus on roadmapping a modest build for her.
Essentially what I am asking is for you guys to give me a little feedback on this roadmap i have laid out. I have spent a lot of time lurking and reading these forums to learn as much as i can about the car i love. However, since i would be beyond new evo's no matter what way you slice it you guys could kind of point me in the right direction.
At the end of the day I want a very modest build and want to shoot for something in the 380-425 whp range. Although i wish i was incredibly rich i am not so i planned on doing said build in 5 stages or so as outlined below. Please let me know if you see any holes in my roadmap and ways in which i can make the goal of my build a reality.
Stage 1 - right after purchase
- Torque Solutions Short Shifter
- Weighted Shift Knob
- Eibach Pro Kit Lowering Springs and an alignment (Lowering heights = 1.35 front / 1 rear)
Stage 2
- AMS Singletip TBE (with resonated test pipe)
- JDP Rally Type Carbon Front Lip
- Fog Lights (haven't decided on brand or type)
Stage 3
- AMS CAI System
- AEM Tru-Boost Controller System
- Ralliart Black Taillight Lamps
Stage 4
- AMS FMIC
- AMS Upper and Lower IC Piping
Stage 5
- AMS Tune/Flash (STX300?) or would a local tune be better? Very very unsure on the tuning aspect of things
- Rota Grid (Gold - 18x9.5)
As you can see i choose to go with rather basic additions that allow me to upgrade visually and performance wise piece by piece and won't require me to tune the car everytime something is added. Also somewhere in there i plan on adding a better fuel pump as well, any recommendations? In the end i hope this methods saves me a lot of money on tuning fees. Saving the tune for last allows for all of the parts to be installed and gives me time to think whether or not i want to increase the amount of boost to 20-21 or so psi on mostly stock internals. I think i might be able to achieve my desired wheel power with the above modifications. If not please let me know if i am over or under-ambitious. Thanks in advance guys.

really? even though i plan on modifing the intercooler and companion parts? Also i wasn't too sure if the stock boost controls would be best especially if i wanted to increase boost levels.
i also figured since they were simple bolt on the negative effects without a tune wouldn't be to critical.

What you want is a 3-port boost solenoid to replace the stock solenoid. The AEM truboost is just an electronic manual boost controller. The ECU will not be able to adjust the boost based on external factors such as humidity, temperature, and load.
definitely noted, i just remember seeing that the true boost also came with a solenoid, i thought it was a complete package.
