What to look for when buying used Evo X?

Hey guys, I saw a thread about this before, but that was a couple years old. Since time has passed and many people have got more time with their evos I wanted to see if I could get you guys Input.

I'm in the market for a used Evo x. 08-2010. I'm primarily looking at two. One is an 08, all stock except for an exhaust, and the other is an 08 with a built motor. It was blown at one point and rebuilt, I'm not sure how to feel about that.

Basically I'd like to know what to look out for when looking into a used Evo, what problems or issues. Miles for both are around 60-70k miles

Thanks!

I wouldnt buy a car with a rebuilt motor unless the owner had receipts and what not from where it was done all that jazz.

Ditto for getting all the details on the one with the built motor. I would strongly caution against that one unless you are trying to build a high horsepower car and plan to do lots of engine work anyway. With that said, I am always very skeptical of built cars being sold. I mean, why did the owner go through all that trouble to build it up and then sell it?

I bought my 10' used and it had cat back exhaust on it. The things that I looked for were obvious signs that the engine had been tampered with. I looked for scarred up bolts, leaks, bolt ons, things out of place. Stuff like that.

Would you guys say evos are overall reliable?

Or are there common issues that happen with the Evo like the oil issues common in 350zs. Basically looking out for anything expensive that could pop up

Well, if you're willing to put in the effort, get a flexible-tube camera and take a look at the ACD/AYC pump, so see if it's badly corroded (already). Less of an issue in your neck of the woods, but it's $1500-$2000 to fix.

yes. very.

i've had my gsr since 06/09. it has 102k miles now. still on original everything except, tires, pads, pulleys. everything else is original.

the only thing i would look out for is the plastic pulley. it WILL fail. mine failed on me at 62k miles. other than that, i've had no issues with my gsr. i've had my intake/tp/exhaust/uicp/pro tune for 90k miles too.

If you aren't sure what to look for maybe it would help to bring a reputable mechanic along to help you check things out.

I'm having trouble keeping mine aligned. I'm sure there are some upgrades I can do to help. That and probably not go so hard on some of these WV roads.
