whining at cold start-up
I guess a dealership and your ex nascar buddy knows more than 99% of the people on this forum.
Interesting. I didn't realize starting your car cold causes the intake to have pressure instead of vacuum. Didn't realize that turning the steering wheel during this time would also cause the intake to create a seal.

lol my car doesnt make the noise any more so i guess it was a fluke when i did turn the wheel and it shut off, it was also on the 3rd start of the day after turning it on and off, maybe it was already warm a little, but they said a pipe had a hole in it and now its not making anymore of that sound so i guess im good
they said it had a hole in it and when it was cold the rubber pipes harden and once it warmed up it would expand closing the hole, it was near a connection, they just replaced the tube and it was done like a 30 mins fox but it took them a few hours to find it lol
What, exactly, was it?
best advice for you as a newer evo owner... this is what I have done for the past 8 years. just wait till it breaks completely, & then get a new one. or else you will hear a new noise every day LoL
The video showed us a whining noise coming from the front of the engine (i.e., the left side when view from in front of the car). The noise goes away when the car is warmed up and may also be changed by turning the steering wheel. The car did not throw a lean or rich code.
The "fix" is to replace or repair some unnamed hose on the intake.
Just to make sure that this thread is complete and can be used appropriately by others who find it when they search....
