A brief description of the new approach would be great, if you're willing to type it in. (If nothing else, it would raise the value of this thread by a few orders of magnitude.) What I was describing is the method used by many people with things like DSM-Link on a 4G63. We retard the timing and dump fuel on shifts. Poor-person's ALS. It didn't work well for me, so I stopped using it after a few months.

i am not a tuner, so i wouldn't go "details" which i am not certain.
but with these new ecu's they do the opposite, cut a fuel vs the old ones. so that is a reason why the als doesnt make that much damage like they did before. and that is why they a bit quieter.
when you see flames that is either old ecu maybe engine problem or not a proper tune.

the new type of als and launch programs:

Hm. Sounds like they're using the heat of going lean, then. But I should not discourage your attitude of not discussing things that aren't fully understood, as that's the attitude the internet needs more of these days. cheers
