UR Rally Armor flaps Track use
UR Rally Armor flaps Track use
Anyone have much experience with the RA flaps after or during track use. Do they hold up pretty well to speed, flapping around, get torn, and do they beat up the bodywork a bit? Anyone's experiences would be appreciated. Thanks.
I am not a fan. While I suppose they could protect the finish on the car, if they do flap, they'll be a distraction. Worse, if they come off at speed, they'll be a hazard. Every group is different but you also run the risk of tech asking that they come off before the event. That may not be true but they do look at such things and, if it were me, might just ask they be removed.
It's not unheard of, in fact I do it often, to take small excursions off track. I'll track out at exit and have a wheel or two in the dirt. I'll take a deep apex, meaning that I'll put a wheel up and over the curbing, if it's faster (the Bus stop at Watkins, for example). The bottom of the front splitter takes a real beating. I can't imagine a mud flap could get caught but if it did, it would not be good (for the car, track, other cars, mudflap).
Something to consider.

i didnt lost mudflaps so far. Granted mine installed properly and not RA. But they get beating every time when i go out with my car, and they are urathen.
Usually they got ripped (little pieces) or gets too dirty so i need to change them. Very unpleasant for the eye .
examples of beating them.

One point that people might miss. As you can see in the pictures that Rob posted, the flaps on real rally cars have very little in common with those sold by Rally Armor. Most of all, real flaps do not go inside the wheel-wells. They mount on the fender, usually about an inch back from the wheel-well opening. They have one or two brackets on the outside of the fender, plus one or two more underneath. They require a commitment to functionality that many people aren't willing to make, at least not on a daily-driven car.
The main use that I can see for Rally Armor flaps is protecting the paint on a rallycrossing car that is also daily-driven. They don't, for example, protect the ACD/AYC pump (in fact, they might make it worse by making it harder to get crap off the pump when power-washing).

Rally flaps are rather ugly. RA is more of a bling with some functionality.
Here is how the real rally flaps looks like, i try to find pictures where you can see the set up better.

The Ralli Armor ones. Much smaller and they look much easier for the eye. But has way less protection also they do not hold as strong as the real rally flaps. for obvious reasons. One of the reason they are placed inside of the fender-well.

i hope this clears out the basics between the rally mudflaps and the rally armor ones.

very good point.

Secondly, making the pump not last as long as it normally would makes me pretty nervous as well. would these things really make that much difference in how much drum get packed around it?
Well, I don't know how much worse, since I never got up in there to clear off the pump before I put flaps on my car, but I can say that the right-rear flap made it harder to get the tip of the power-washer where it needed to be to really clean the pump. Of course, if you don't go banging around on dirt and gravel, maybe you won't have as much crap end up on top of your pump in the first place.
