Question on Evo X intakes?

Just got an Evo X MR. I would like to put an Intake on it But I hear that my transmission could fail. Dose any one have more info about how the intake can affect my transmission? Or dose any have an intake on there Evo and has no problems?

I installed the Cobb intake and it actually gave my transmission 18 more HP and TQ. Get the Cobb setup. And welcome to the forum.

So, to actually try and answer the OP's question, no, the intake will not affect your trans. It WILL affect your tune (AFR, MAF calibration sometimes). This could in the long run harm your engine, by causing it to run extra lean. This is only the case with some intakes. I had the SST in my last car and modded the sh*t out of it, BUT i also had a reputable tuner who knows both the engine and trans programming. If you want an intake, get a tune after from someone who knows the Evo X and the SST. Play safe

I have a 2010 MRT that I bought in Dec and has 12k miles on it. It is bone stock. I just ordered a Quiet V2 cat back Exhaust system and intake from ETS, after doing a bunch of research here. I wanted something that flowed better than stock, but since this is my DD I didn't want anything too loud.

talk to another tuner? did a so called tuner tell you that in the first place? If so, definitely take it to another shop because that guy is an idiot.

You're fortunate living in the DMV to have lots of good shops within a reasonable distance.

An intake won't hurt your transmission as was said, and if you get an intake that uses the stock MAF housing (like the ETS intake), you don't NEED to get a tune right away. Tuning for your mods will produce the best results and be healthiest for your car, however.

I'd recommend taking a trip up to York PA to check out CBRD for a tune if you decide on going that route.

Good luck, and definitely find another tuner

I just ordered the ETS Intake, HFC, and Quiet Catback exhaust. With my hard inter cooler pipes, and 4 inch inter cooler, I dynoed 320/325 after a tune. The car is only loud when I throttle it. While cruising, it has a small drone.
