Just purchased my first Evo!

Hey guys I just purchased a 2010 WW Evo GSR. I just had a quick question for you guys. When I shift into 3rd it grinds and it has a little resistance. Clutch is not stock. From what I've been reading on here, people just recommend to put in some fresh tranny fluid. Is this something that I should be worried about?

I don't own an evo, but you should flush it anyway. It would give you a good idea of the condition of the transmission by what's in the old fluid coming out of it. No harm in putting in gear oil you know is fresh either.

if you bought it used, changing out all fluids is really good insurance. i.e. i had a shop install a clutch for me.. come to find out they added Shockproof to the transmission. had i sold the car that way and not told the buyer, they (you) would be driving around with it that way. it's worth the piece of mind, trust me.

Good to know. I still haven't picked it up. I'll have the dealer change the fluids then. I was told by one of the salesman at the dealer that the guy that traded it in told him that he dynoed the car and it made 343 awhp. That's why I'm a little worried because it's going to be my DD

Welcome. Good advice above. I always change all fluids when I buy a used car. Cheap insurance.

do you know how it was tuned? if you can find out, then you can get yourself a Cobb AP/Tacktrix cable/etc to pull the tune off and have it checked. have you had a chance to check for aftermarket parts? to make much over 300-315whp i THINK you would need injectors (i'm not 100% sure with the Xs). if they are stock, you could always flash a stock ROM and start over. it's a bit scary buying a modded car without knowing the history but if it's coming from the dealership, that helps.

either way, i bet you can't wait to get your hands on it!

You don't need injectors for >300whp on the X. I have 327awhp on stock injectors on my X. Did require a tune and some flow bolt ons, however.

Buying a used Evo will always run a level of risk. Even more risk if the car has been modded. But I currently have about that hp on my car. My point being that even if modded and putting down some hp, it can still be a solid car. I DD mine so most of my miles are while driving normally and usually out of boost. I also do regular fluid changes and preventive maintenance. I wouldn't be too worried about the increased hp unless you see obvious signs of issues or abuse.

That is assuming the prior tuner did not lock the tune.
