27, around 1700 /year to insure mine, in los angeles.
I totalled my 350z and that really hurts the rate.
I will shop around this month again.

yes, I'm 31 with a 100% clean record and a defensive driving course discount and i pay 160 a month in new york. Being in new york is the issue, everything here is freaking expensive.

Just being in Southern CA hurts the rate! I was quoted $1400/yr. 34y/o, married, clean record, bundled with home and other autos. That IS a $500 ded though. I have to call and see if changing that makes much difference.

Post up the difference it's big. Go for the highest you can. 1500 is ideal if they allow it.

The question being - would you seriously hit up insurance for 500 / 1000 bucks? Hell no, because you know they will jack your rates if you do for some minor stuff.

DAAAAAMN man. To each their own but $460 is some peoples' RENT. My wife just bought a new FJ Cruiser and her car PAYMENTS aren't even $460. $5,000+ per year just for coverage is just insane man.

Bam - Much lower insurance just with that change.

It really depends on lots of factors, some of them just BS to get you to pay more $$$. I lived in Tempe, AZ (home of Arizona State Univ.) and moving from there (lots of college students, DUIs, etc) to Phoenix made a difference in my price on my old car before I got the Evo. You've just got to honestly shop around. Different places are cheaper if you just go with the car, others are better if you bundle, etc. I applied for motorcycle insurance with Geico (who I have the Evo insurance with) and they gave a CRAZY high quote. I went with Progressive and got great coverage for about $20/month. So, in the end, you just have to shop around because what is good for one person probably won't be good for someone else. The ONLY exception to that rule is usually USAA.

Similar to you - bought a new MR last year. 30 years old, perfect record. I shopped around a bit and ended up with 1500 / yr through Liberty Mutual. I live outside Boston so its a bit pricey. I'll switch if they hike it next year which is what most insurance companies do.

EvoGsr,

You pay $460/month to insure a LEASED car ? ? You could just BUY a used car like a Honda Civic for cheap, make payments on that car. Use $60 of the $460/month to insure that car. That allows you to SAVE and put $400/month away. You do that for 2 years and you will have $9,600 cash saved after two years ! ! ! ! This doesn't even take into account the $400+ you're probably paying each month on the lease. You could EASILY shave off at least $100/month by going with a cheaper car. That frees up another $1,200/year brining your new total saved up to $10,800. You can also SELL the Honda Civic (or other used car) and possibly get some of what you paid for the car. A conservative guess would be at least $500 - $1000. That now gives you a grand total of $11,300 - $11,800 that you would have SAVED up in CASH towards a car. You can then shop around, find the Evo that you want, put that $$$ down, finance the rest and have nice, cheap, manageable payments instead of the $850+ you're probably paying in payments/insurance each month. Let some other person pay the depreciation and stuff on a new car. Just some friendly advice from someone who's older than you and has seen many friends get into financial problems making decisions like the one you've made. Not in any way trying to be a jerk.

I don't think this was mentioned here yet as some insurance companies also look at your credit report. That could have something to do with your rate.

Lots of great advice given.

Without full coverage my 2003 is about $520 per year with USAA. 57 years of age. Yeah I am an old fart.

$460 does not seem high if he is under 25. I was paying $540/month, yes FIVE HUNDRED AND FORTY per month before i turned 25. No accidents, no claims, just a young boy with a "race car". As soon as i turned 25 my rates went down. I now pay $450/month for 3 x vehicle and a house combined. Not sure if it makes a difference but i'm from Alberta Canada.
