Do you think something like this can be reliably daily driven?

It wouldn't be a DD all year, just the summer months. Keep the GTI for winter.

Are you saying you wouldn't drive the Evo in the winter to better preserve the car or are you saying the GTI would be a better DD in the winter? Just looking to clarify.

Big difference DDing in Buffalo compared to Huston. Winters destroy cars.

anyone know if its possible to disconnect rear wheel drive for a long drive? I am looking into getting an X but I have to make an 800 mile roudtrip bianually, would hate to put stress on the AWD system / on a long haul.

I used to drive my MR daily with that much or more hp. I found the gas mileage to be horrible and I hated putting that many miles on my nice car. I would get the evo and then a cheap Miata or something to DD

Not really. I would just recommend doing a rear diff and t-case fluid change after your trip. It was designed to be driven so it shouldn't have any issues with your road trip stresses.

I had an 04 TL as a DD. Sold it a couple of months back because I just wanted to drive the Evo. It's all good until i'm stuck in the usual DMV rush hour traffic.

I drove my car cross country from WA to NY over 2000 miles. No problem with the transmission. Granted it was one trip but still I really doubt a long haul will have any more of an ill effect on it than city driving.

I DD'd mine for a few years with no issue. About 400 hp or so. The car is a bit rough on bumps being the type of car it is, so I'm sure some would find it harsh. I didn't mind the rigid feel at all though. Loved every minute driving it. I actually commuted 200 km a day in it with a few car pooling passengers and got nothing but compliments
