Because Mitsubishi service is TERRIBLE. They have no clue what is happening.

so I changed my oil and the noise has gone down, but it isn't as lowed as it was. so obviously its the oil pump..

the thing that I don't get is why hasn't there been a petition signed from all evo owners to get this sort of thing fixed? obviously its an issue and needs to be fixed, or did I not see the petition ?... seems to me that people are just lazy and just take it as it is for spending 40k on a car that makes a noise, that we know its not right. but the mechanics seem to give false information, as I got two different answers from two different dealers.

A lotta us evo owners have this mentality of "I didn't buy me evo for(insert here)" and I agree we should care more.

That mystery whinning noise

2013 gsr , whinning noise from behind glove box pitch goes higher and faster following rpm, sounds in neutral and every gear. Itll be gone after an oil change in the begining 3k miles, now its after 500 miles it started making the noise

I did exactly what you did and same issue. So its gotta be the oil pump that needs to be replaced. But evo community is to damn lazy to get a recall going. We need evo people to care more about thsir 42k cars.

Mitsubishi won't do anything about it unless the pump fails, in which case they'll replace it under the power train warranty.
Unless it's a safety issue or they fail in the masses there will not be a recall.

But if anyone figures out why exactly it does make noise, do tell.

Is mitsubishi evos the only oil pump that makes noise? Ive never heard other types of cars have this issue. Its obvioualy a evo issue that needs to be fixed, which they never did. They just used the same **** on all models since 08

I've read that some people have had luck using Rotella t6 5-40w oil. Supposedly it helps keep the pump from whining as much. I'm going to try it myself for the next oil change. Right now I get about 2 thousand miles on an oil change before the pump starts making noise. Might be worth a look.

How many miles did you have on the rotella when you started hearing the oil pump?

I made this thread a while back and didnt get much response, But you can clearly hear a high pitched noise.

If its your oil pump the noise typically goes away after an oil change and returns once the oil starts shearing down. I get the noise around 2k miles with 5-30 Mobil 1. I've not read of any failures associated with the oil pump, but a lot of people have it. Some oils may hold up longer than others. I'm still experimenting myself.
