Evo X whining noise!!!!! help
I've read that some people have had luck using Rotella t6 5-40w oil. Supposedly it helps keep the pump from whining as much. I'm going to try it myself for the next oil change. Right now I get about 2 thousand miles on an oil change before the pump starts making noise. Might be worth a look.
I did the rotella t6 but after like 100miles it makes the noise again i repeat the t6 5 40 DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM list of oil i tried royal purple 10 30 high performance street the one with zinc, oem mobil 1 10 30, redline 10 30 all of them doesnt resolve this problem, from all that oil the oem mobil 1 10 30 eliminate that noise the longest, like 1k miles
Evo X whining noise!!!!! help
Because people new to the issue tend not to read the entirety of the thread, and/or want to hear by themselves an answer to this.
I'm not sure, but lots of evos are doing it. Mine started when it was brand new with the original oil.. I decided to change the oil at 1500 or 2000 km because it made a lot of noise, and I did notice that when draining the oil it was a grayish gross colour.. All subsequent oil changes have been normal. Therefore it's my opinion that driving 5000km before an oil change on the original factory fill isn't really appropriate, and that an oil change is due at 1000km,and then again at 5000 or 6000km on the odometer.
Hi folks.
I've owned a Ralliart for the past five years, and never heard this noise at all.
My Ralliart, like the vast majority of them, came with no oil cooler Yesterday I had an Evolution X oil cooler fitted. 100% new, factory Evo stuff - lines, cooler, thermostat, the whole lot.
And, driving home, I hear the exact noise described in this thread. Clear as day, between 2500 and 3200rpm, audible once the car has warmed up.
So my theory, after a whopping 12 hours of experience (lol), is that this is very much tied in with the Evo's Oil Cooler setup.
Off the top of my head, I'm thinking one of...
1. Different oil flow characteristics with cooler and lines, compared to it being blanked off.
2. The hard lines themselves conducting oil pump vibration, eg. harmonics around 2500-3200rpm.
...or a combination of both. Those hard lines come from by the oil filter, but hang via a bracket directly onto the oil pump housing itself... so it could be a harder working pump plus the design and fitment of the metal lines... right there on the pump housing.
Anyway, interesting!

It had nothing to do with gear selection. It occurred between 2500 and 3200rpm.
As with other reported instances of this particular noise, it went away completely when I changed the engine oil on Sunday night.
And, in line with others' experiences, I do expect it to slowly come back, too.
When it does, I intend to play around with some vibration prevention on the hard oil lines to/from the cooler. Lines that are fixed directly to the oil pump with a metal bolt and bracket.
