*vid inside* Evo X FE vs STi vs New Civic Type R at Tsukuba Circuit

Evo X Final Edition - 1:06.518
STI (JDM with EJ20 and 8k redline) - 1:06.789
New Civic Type R - 1:07.402

Test was conducted by Car Top Magazine in Japan.

Same driver for all 3 vids (Shimizu Kazuo, a renowned Japanese race driver / motor journalist)

Driver thought the type R could have gone 0.3-0.5 second quicker because the track was damp in a few places.

Discuss .

I didn't know the STI was still using the EJ20, I thought they had switched but I guess not. Can't believe they're still giving us the ringland issue-prone EJ25..

dug this up btw - obviously different days, but same driver... yet - with all its tweaks and better tune and such, no real improvement? With the STI actually being significantly slower?

I don't quite understand it either. Some of the earlier lap times were done in stripped out models (Evo RS, Sti Spec C) but I am not sure whether that alone can account for such a big difference.

But then again, I recall seeing an Evo 9 GSR (could have been a GT... don't remember) getting clocked at mid 6 seconds, so....

a lot of different varieties of the 9, I think the fast time was in the MR RS, which was pure gibberish to me. Never quite understood how the trims worked in Japan. I think the Spec C clocked one of the fastest but not on that list.

I was more referring to the lap time between the X then and the X now, which ran pretty much the same time

Well... Mitsu DID leave the X largely alone... I don't think the extra 10-15 hp the FE got was enough to make a difference.

that's true. it was a good hp bump, I think that was to the wheels -- but otherwise largely left alone
