2015 Evo GSR vs. 2016 WRX
Don't know if the OP got his car or not...
I was in the same boat as him when I was car shopping.
If you don't care about the Brembo brakes and advanced transmission: get the WRX, get the ETS turbo kit. Done.
IMO, the Evo is an overrated car. The quality of the whole thing is sub-par for a car that costs $30,000+. If I could do it all over, I would get a beater and wait for the STi (assuming and hoping that Subaru will eventually bring out a FA25 engine for it).
As far as your other options, depending on what you drove previously:
- The BRZ/FRS are fun and cheap but VERY slow. IMO the BRZ needs a turbo or centrifugal SC from factory (come on BRZ STi! lol)
- The Focus RS will be MORE out of your budget as it will be difficult to get your hands on one without avoiding dealership markups. (btw, fantastic machines if you are not import-biased)
- The Mustangs can only be V8 but then the GT models will be out of reach for you. Ecoboost Mustangs look interesting though.

You have zero clue troll on homie. Most of us came from Failbaru we are well aware of the platform and the many reasons to steer clear of it. The EVO is a fantastic car that you are talking out of your *** about because you have zero clue about the car.

there will never be a FA2.5diT
1.the specs for the Japanese STi FA2.0 are out already. it makes less power then the current Ej. but the car looses 120 kilos. its like 290/275.
2. the RS will be an import. and built, at the Werk Saarlouis ford plant in Germany.
3. the mustang GT 350, is a flat crank V8 that is amazing, with electronic controlled ferrofluid sturts. its breaks every mustang rule but IMHO its beyond its years already.
WRX, with ETS turbo, it like 4 grand just for the parts, at least another 1500 for install in tune. to put down as much as a basic E85 EVO.
Whether I get the WRX or the Evo I plan on keeping it stock for the purposes of reliable daily driving. I'm not considering any used cars in this market, also for reliability reasons. Also, I won't be going to the track any time soon so the better handling and performance I will get with an Evo is sort of negligent at this point. I'm not the kind of person who envies others' cars, and so I wouldn't question my decision on getting something else other than an Evo. I know I'll get one down the road if not now so that's not a problem.
I really appreciate everyone's input. As I figured, most of you suggested I wait and get the Evo. Though I'm curious as to what "Other" suggestions you guys had in mind.

I would sit down and list what you want in ur car, the needs and what your budget it(including, insurance, taxes, maintenance etc.), then look at all car manufacturers and test drive them. There's a lot of good cars out there with a lot of good value u just got to know what you want in your car and can live with or without... Good Luck and let us know...

Two different yet similar cars.
Ive owned a WRX albiet older model so not quite the same. And I own a 2008 GSR which is the first iteration of the Evo X.
The Evo is very different in terms of performance and driving experience. And Ive driven both all over the country and put over 100,000 miles on each.
Theyre both different cars. The WRX will give you more "bang" for your buck for cheaper so in that sense its a "better" deal. But then again a WRX can never be a STI. And a STI can never be an Evo. So pick your poison. When it comes to these three cars Im an Evo go hands down.
One issue for me with the WRX and STI is the inherent limitation to mods, as well as issues common to horizontal opposed engines. Even Porsche wants to go with V8s in their higher level cars but purists resist that.
There are other options of course, but that wasnt the OPs question. And short of higher end BMW and Porsche youd be hard pressed to beat the Evo in terms of overall performance an reliability. But it does have some weaknesses but as in all cars be they JDM, German, or American muscle, youll have to do some building to within stand certain levels of power etc.
Good luck. This is a quality problem to have-

I'm sorry that my post count is so low and not as high as yours, therefore, being a noob about Evos.
Read my post or my sig. I've owned a Subaru as well. I think I know a bit about the old EJ engines. But I'm sure you've owned a FA Subaru as well, making you an expert on ALL "Failbarus."Smh
I'm pretty sure the OP wanted an unbiased opinion, instead of all the fanboys jumping in and just saying "get the EVO." I'd like to say I'm pretty open-minded about all cars and don't talk crap about something I'm not sure about, haven't owned, or haven't driven before.
The Evo has a fantastic powertrain and drivetrain. But the fit and finish, service at Mitsubishi dealerships, interior quality, etc, etc are way sub-par for a car that people pay $30k. If you think this is ok, you need to wake up from your Evo dream. lol

1. WOAH watch out! Bold letters! You must work pretty high up in Subaru to know for a fact that Subaru will not make an STi with a FA engine. I also read that the next STi will be a hybrid, which I hope it's not true. Maybe you can clarify that. Lol smdh.
Not talking about anything JDM. I can care less about JDM stuff. I want USDM things that I can get my hand on. This is what I said, "assuming and hoping that Subaru will eventually bring out a FA25 engine for it." I do not know if there will ever be one. I said I was HOPING for it. I'm stuck with the Evo for a bit so if I could hit the reset button, that is what I would do. Never recommended the OP to do so. This was just my sole opinion and thought for my own car ownership.
But I do agree about the FA20. Subaru will most likely downsize the STi engine size because of the new fuel economy regulations worldwide. But even the S207 model only gets ~330bhp. Subaru won't be able to compete with the Focus RS. Heck, even FWD cars like the Civic Type R gets 300+bhp. I thnk they NEED to make a fuel-efficient FA25 engine for the WRX STi.
2. Some people will never like American cars, wherever they are made because it has the very American "Ford" badge on them.
And yes, they will be assembled in Germany. But come on man, give me a break buddy. So VW Beetles are Mexican cars because they are assembled in Mexico? Hyundais are American because they are assembled in Alabama? I can keep going... LOL
3. Love those cars. But might as well tell the OP to get a GT350R. Smh, do you even read the thread before posting? He can't afford the Evo at the moment so what makes you think he will even consider the Mustang GT350? With his budget, he can afford a fastback Ecoboost Mustang or MAYBE a Mustang GT if he can haggle the heck out of that one.
4. I'm not saying that the OP should get the ETS turbo kit right away. He can start by enjoying the stock WRX. But most of the comments mentioned "but if you settle for the WRX, you'll want an Evo every time you will see one on the road. You'll regret it, etc etc..." But the WRX has a nicer interior than a base Evo. I think the fit and finish is better on the newer design WRX (I've test driven one). So when he gets tired of the WRX, slap in an ETS turbo kit and make ~400whp, run 10s on the 1/4 mile and woohoo! love the car again! AND as a bonus, he won't have to drive around hunting for gas stations that sell E85. (I myself cannot seem to find a gas station with E85 at a reasonable distance from my home/work/etc.)
Uh... I don't know. I don't understand why I have to explain myself... I thought my initial post was pretty clear.

I bought the Evo because I wanted one for a while but was too young and could not afford one. I had to settle for a new 2011 WRX. Now I can afford an Evo so I got one. And because the local Subaru dealership staff were ****** when I went to test drive a WRX, I wanted to give them the middle finger and bought the Evo just to spite them.
But the Evo has too many shortcomings in terms of quality and fit and finish that I did not expect from a $30k+ car. The interior sucked, so I opted to upgrade to the Premium package and the Sight and Sound package for the leather interior, HIDs, and nicer sound. But even after spending all that money, the car still rattles everywhere! I guess a Mitsubishi is still a Mitsubishi no matter how much you spend...
Ok, I'm done clarifying myself.
I'd really like to know what the OP got and his reasons behind his choice.

Even Honda is admitted they lost their direction with the Civic and the reason they aren't importing a Type-R is it currently isnt living up to the standard they want it to be at for import into America, which is a much more discriminating market than Europe or Australia
I have owned 2 Subarus (07 STI and 05 WRX) and 3 Evos (and 8,9 and now a X MR). The Evo 8 gave me the most problems but I knew that going into it. The Subies were both modded and never gave me problems and I owned both for about 3 years each. The IX MR was great and never gave me issues and owned it for 2.5 years. With this being said...
Lets not forget the OP is on a budget... so lets throw out Mustang GTs and other crazy cars suggestions... VWs aren't cheap...
And he also said he wants to keep the car stock so lets stop with the modding suggestions..
And to say a Subaru is bad in the snow...
that made me laugh. I guess Civics are great in the snow then...
I think whether he buys a used Evo GSR with low mileage or a new WRX, he would be fine. He will have the base warranty for both cars for some time. I think he needs to drive both cars and make a decision himself. He is on a budget so modding is also out of the question which should keep him in the clear and away from any issues from either manufacturer if he ran into warranty issues.
OP, if you buy either of these cars, just realize what you are getting yourself into. Neither car is the most reliable (compared to economically smart choices like a Civic, Hyundai, or Corolla). But like I said, if you are keeping the cars stock and you buy them with a decent amount of warranty left (the Subaru being brand new would give you the most), then you should be ok.
Shop around for an Evo and test drive one. If you find a good deal on one and you prefer it over the WRX, then buy one. I say get either car will make you happy in different ways. Drive them and give it some good thought. So good luck on what you decide.
And don't feel like you are letting the Evo community down if you get a Subaru. Do what is right financially and drive what makes you happy.

This forum, like most car forums, are full of people with the mindset of "I didn't buy one of those, so it must be a piece of ****".
Reading over the threads bashing Subaru on here is hilarious, and last time I checked, at least they were still in the race car game.

OP hasn't been back in a month, so this is a dead conversation regarding him.
I actually really like the current STI and think it's the best Subie we've ever had in the US. I just don't trust the engine, nor is it good for power.
If the STI drives and handles as good as it does now, drops 120kg, and gets a 290hp FA20 that can rev, I've found my next car when my Evo is paid off and turns into a fun car in a couple years.
