Evo X Final Edition Worth the Money?
Evo X Final Edition Worth the Money?
I am looking at buying a new car this week. I looked at STI's but I can't seem to like the boxer engine or AWD system (though I love the interior). I came across a final edition for $41k. The dealer said it has:
I would be trading in my 2013MR and I might be able to swap out my Recaros. What do you guys think? Is it worth the $8k over the base GSR?
Thanks for the help! I am really struggling with this decision.
- Aero package
- Upgraded wing
- Different front grille (it was shiny not matte)
- 5 speed with changed gear ratios - is this true? Is it equally strong to the classic 5 speed?
- Aluminum black roof
- No Recaros

you can also get a base FE. I did. MSRP on mine was 38805. Compared that way, yes, to me it was worth the $3k. HID's, better suspension, better brakes, slightly more power.
And yes, the 5 speed is indestructible.

I also looked at an S4 which was nice and powerful, but I really like getting sideways in the snow.
My SST has shown some troubling signs. I don't want to go past my 50k warranty and have the $12k unit fail. At this point, I just want a 5 speed.
I paid MSRP for my FE. Some dealerships are trying to mark them up, but I wouldn't have paid the mark up. Getting it for under MSRP seems to be very difficult if not impossible right now. Maybe if the FEs don't sell very well, some dealerships will be trying to unload them next year for lower costs. To be honest they don't seem to be flying off the shelf, probably due to heavy competition from 2014 and 2015 regular Evos. As long as those are widely available, I think you can avoid the mark up on a FE.
As for the question of whether it is worth it, for me it is an absolute yes, but that's probably mainly cause I never had an Evo before. But yea, I love 5 speed and this is basically an upgraded GSR. If you absolutely have to have the recaros or like a sunroof, then FE isn't the right option. If those aren't a necessity, then it's a pretty great choice in my opinion.

I'll probably try to keep my FEs miles as low as possible. Gonna drive my Eclipse into the ground if necessary lol (hey its still running fine after 19 years, though the back half of my Greddy exhaust fell off at some point :0). But for the FE just weekend cruising or events most likely.
If you can get it for MSRP, then the Final Edition is arguably worth it. But if your plan is to mod the car, then get a base GSR and ~6K in mods.
Final Edition MSRP $38K vs. Base X GSR ~32K
For instance, Ohlins R&T $2400, used set of Evo X MR Recaros $1200, used set of Volk CE28 wheels $1700, Bridgestone RE71R 275/35-18 tires $1100 (all while keeping your warranty)

Yea it's a good point. I debated whether I would mod the FE and I think my conclusion is no. It will almost cerainly keep its value much better bone stock. Might as well put the mod money in the Eclipse or get a second evo a couple years from now when I can pick up a decent miles used one for 15k or so.

I believe it is possible, but likely requires a Mitsubishi service tech to reset the bags. Similar to if you had an airbag deploy in your stock seat and had it replaced. Give your local Mitsubishi service department a call, they will tell you for sure.
