I got new upper radiator hoses.. do I drain?

I have some new mishimoto upper radiator hoses and I was curious on the steps u guys take to install them? Do u drain the system? Do u put a rag underneath where u will loosen and just change them? Believe it or not I have never done this lol. Not sure what to look out for or how to go about installing.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Ive never done them on the evo but I would imagine its the same. You can just change them out but you will want to bleed any air out of the system after you do that and you will have to add a little fluid to replace what you lose.

just the upper hose?

well, you can either drain, catch, and reuse
or
you can just pull the top one and loose what's in it, the upper radiator, and thermostat housing, then fill it back up when done. it's also really messy that way, though.

Save yourself some trouble and drain all of your radiator fluids. It is going to spill out all of your engine bay if you attempt to disconnect the hose while still full and make a huge mess on the garage floor. Then you will have to figure out how much fluid you lost so that you can replace it.

Much easier to just drain it and fill back up with the exact amount you need.

A lot more mess!

But refilling isn't too hard. You fill until it's full. Pretty easy.

I'm going with kaj's recommendation here. You are going to spill what's in the hose and the upper radiator neck, but it is easy to fill and much faster than draining the entire radiator and filling it back up, bleeding out all the air.

That being said, if you are due for a coolant flush then you might as well drain it. If not, just replace the top hose and have lots of shop rags around your thermostat area.

If you have hose clamps, you can greatly minimize the amount of mess.

I think I am just going to drain it and get it done with. It might be just a easier way for me. I'm not trying to make a mess. I have to remove the under panel and just drain it. I'm clueless about getting the air bubbles out since I have never had to mess around with fill g a radiator before but I am sure I can just ask a local guy. Thanks guys.

Fill.
Let run.
Refill until bubbles stop being produced.
Top off overflow.

A burping kit makes it 1,000,000 times easier.

Well now.. i was told by a few locals that since i am not doing the lower radiator hoses then i shouldn't even bother draining the fluids. They suggested i just put a few shop clothes under the 2 hoses up top that i am going to loosen and just replace them and then fill up the radiator back up.

My question is.. Which ones do i take off first? The hose that goes next to the upper intercooler pipe or the one that goes towards the overflow tank? I'm not too sure on which ones to replace first because i don't know where the fluids are going to drain better to make less of a mess. Advice? Thanks.
