if i read right: EPA is after people that modify smog equipment on their road cars, for track use. before, we could do as we please, then go back to OEM for road use. now, they want us to run at the race track with all smog equipment in place. i see no way this will pass nor a way for them to enforce it.
i think i read something about "registration" for track cars. more money for the states, i suppose.
either way, it's just retarded. our smog issues aren't affecting global climate, though i am for clean air. for that reason i'm okay with smog laws, as long as they are reasonable. this one is not.

I don't know how they can justify the $37,000 fine for each engine mod they deem is in violation. Meanwhile the hundreds of industrial plants, mining facilities and agriculture spew tons of pollutants into the atmosphere. But my modified 4 cylinder is the cause for global warming.

My main issue with this is a lot of people just track there cars for hobby and its already pretty expensive to do, I couldn't imagine paying other fees and stuff that would come from this just to drive my car safely on the race track instead of some back road somewhere for free. Because im sure they will impose some type of charge to tracks just for hosting events which the tracks will in turn pass along to the little guy.
i agree that the state can't go after all these companies that are polluting. so, they try to clean up the air by fixing everything else. unfortunately, our cars don't make that much of a difference, to tell the truth. so, no matter how tight they get, it's not going to change everything. but.. it keeps the public happy to show they are doing "something", i guess.
I signed the petition because I think the rule is too general and doesn't provide a viable solution to the issue.
However, I disagree with the complaints that requiring some smog on race vehicles is ridiculous. Every racing organization I've ever participated in has rules that you need to follow to be class legal. A rule about emissions that applies to everyone wouldn't in any way impact the competition of the sport as everyone would have to meet the requirements.
And with vehicles making as much horsepower as they do nowadays, the minor horsepower loss resulting from having to run a catalytic converter really isn't going to make a difference in the sport.
So yeah, I'll just zip up my flame suit now.
