Considering used EVO X MR

Wanted to ask for some opinions on a scheme I sorta want.

I currently have a Focus ST right now with 46k on the ODO. I sorta miss AWD (had a few Subaru's in the past) and have always loved the EVO.

I like the idea of the SST transmission because of the mindless nature of the automatic in traffic for my daily commute but the cool factor of the flappy paddle shifting on the track.

My buddy who runs a Mitsu dealer has an '08 EVO X MR with 123k on the ODO. According to him it was purchased at his dealer and all the service was done there. It's never been modded at all.

Should I run from an EVO with such high mileage?

Thanks in advance.

If you're OK with sinking money into the car, it's probably alright as long as everything checks out (i.e. no accidents, maintenance records, etc...) Over 100k miles, there are going to be problems sooner rather than later, that's just how things go. It's why none of the manufacturers will warranty their cars over that level of miles.

I'm sure you could still have a ton of fun with that car but you'll just have to be ready to spend some money fixing it up.

I need to get the full service history of the car from my buddy.

I was reading a bit on the SST but I didn't see anything on when the clutch packs need to be changed (recommended intervals).

As an MR owner that loves it, I would say if you are looking for EVO's with that many miles, get a GSR. These transmissions 'if' they have an issue are very expensive to fix. 5 speeds are easy and would probably last longer.

Love my MR but yeah I'd find something else personally.

If you haven't made your decision yet I'll let you know mine is just past 112xxx miles and I haven't had any issues with my clutch at all but I dropped about 3k for clutch packs and another 1k for install because with it not being a traditional trams I wouldn't recommend messing with it. So it's pricy for sure if you wanna make power.

That's not high mileage. Always when buying a used Evo from a dealership you need to buy the extended warranty that the dealership sells so count on that...you can negotiate it about half the initial price from my experience. You might get lucky if you don't purchase it (rare), but if not you'll not want the bills this car isn't cheap to fix.
I'd also remind the dealership that you need to change all the fluids which will cost you lots so I'd negotiate that too.
You will love this car and especially the MR. This car is awesome. I also have a 2008 Evo X mr. My car is untuned and has no mods other than Titek titanium exhaust and Cosworth drop in filter. Not many around like this so as I say. Be careful. Then enjoy.
