youll get like a few whp difference between the two..pretty pointless tbh just choose the one you think looks the best and sounds the best. the main difference is the weight. If you get a titanium like a tomei single it weighs like 7lbs vs say like a dual ets loud exhaust probably weighs like 30 pounds (not sure exactly just a guess)

Put two mufflers on a scale and weigh. Now remove one and weigh again. Less weight?
Cobb catback weighs what like 55lbs? Tomei weighs 9. Easy math if weight is your thing.

Single.

It's a 4 cylinder, still going to have that 4 cylinder sound, which just doesnt go with the dual muffler look. Plus when I think of an Evo I dont think of a dual exhaust. Feel the same about S2000. My S has a single and so will my X.

Car needs to have a V motor to be 'compatible' with a dual exhaust. On the other hand I wouldnt want a single exhaust on a V powered car.

Single exit will net you more gains and decrease weight. On a four cylinder this is the best way to go unless you want to take a slight hit in power in turn for a well balanced look. The big V8 cars driving around have two headers coming from the engine instead of one, so running a dual exhaust is natural and also a no brainer for them.

It really isn't only about power though, sure the single exit might get you that extra 1-2 hp overall. But the X just looks much much cleaner with a dual sitting nicely in the two slots on the rear diffuser.
You're going to see net gains regardless of which exhaust you go with, and since chasing a few hp isn't going to make much of a difference, you might as well go with something that just looks right.

You have to admit though with cams the evo sounds like a v8 monster!

Indeed. I've been told on multiple occasions that mine sounds like a monster. That's with the Ams widemouth downpipe and a test pipe, then ETS all the way back. No restrictions. Can't wait to hear the sound with cams.

about back pressure...

Its a turbo charged engine... so I am not sure why people think the back pressure from an exhaust is matters here Its not N/A car

Straight usually less weight, straighter design( better flow), and I personally think doesn't look as good as the Dual.\, also louder.

I prefer the Dual because just looks better on the X and there are Dual which flow very nicely so doesn't loose much HP. Also depends on your set up.

I do not a have a cat, so probably my system flows better then Any single with any kind of set up with Catalytic converter, doesn't matter its a 100 cell or 200.

Every exhaust for a X is a single exhaust, they split the end to two for noise reduction , and try to keep the same flow.

Talking about hp from single vs dual... has someone test it on a Dyno..?
This is very straight forward.., go to the dyno test the dual, remove it install the single and test again...!!
Thats the only way to be sure about hp from single vs dual..

Just my opinion.

Which is why I referred to it as dual muffler....

Either way, there's only about 8 Japanese sporty cars that even look like they should have 2 mufflers/dual exhausts.

Nissan Z32-Z33-Z34-R35
Infiniti G35-G37
Acura NSX
Mitsu 3000GT

I cant wait to get mine done, waiting on a call from Driven Fab, prototype single. Besides not liking the dual look, I really, really hate the way the Evo sounds. Like a vacuum cleaner.

The 3000GT has the exact same muffler configuration as the EVO X... !! The only difference is that been a V6 it has a Y-pipe to joint the two banks and then runs single exhaust to the back and then another Y-pipe to one big muffler and a small one.
For my VR4 I kept the front Y-pipe (for space reasons, it wont fit two pipes under the car front to back), and installed a Greddy single cannon straight exhaust in the right side.
