AC blows warm and compressor turns on
My AC blows hot and my compressor turns on. Just took it to a local shop and they looked for leaks and didn't find any and told me I need to get my compressor replaced? It turns on but something inside is bad and quoted me 650$ for a new one. Any suggestions on what I should do next?
I'm not too familiar with evo's but on my old mazda, the clutch was at fault when I had a similar issue. That is the AC clutch, it sits connected to the side of the compressor and it engages and disengages. Mine actually had completely fallen off and I didn't notice it. Something to look into. I'm not an expert so sorry if I'm wrong.
If the shop diagnosed it correctly correctly and found the compressor to be worn with reduced pumping efficiency (ie low discharge pressures and high suction pressures) then the compressor will need to be replaced. Shop around occasionally the dealer has cheaper prices then the aftermarket but most places won't honor a compressor warranty without replacing the metering device and accumulator/drier.
