2015 FE, thoughts?

I've owned 3 WRX's in the past and due to some recent (within 1 year) services that have kinda rubbed me the wrong way, I'm looking towards buying an FE. Local Mitsu dealership has a few, but in particular a blue one with 15miles for $35,999. Would appreciate some insight on what to expect if that's a good deal?

Sorry for any typos atm, will explain later

Price seems good. They MSRP for ~38k. When all was said and done and after financing costs I paid 42 for my '14 MR and that was fully pretty much fully loaded minus the upgraded Nav system (which is pointless) and the parking camera.

I honestly don't know much about the '15s other than they got rid of the Recaro seats, and that was about the only decent thing about the Evo interior in my opinion. The interiors are about the quality of something you'd get in a 18k family sedan =\ I know if you go to Mitsubishi's website and flip back between the GSR/MR/FE the FE's hood seems to be slightly different, but I dunno if that's just the image file they use playing tricks on the eyes or if there's an actual difference. Other than that I'm pretty sure it's a GSR with a slight bump in power and different wheels. Although I'm sure there's someone here with one that can give you a lot of more detailed info.

All I know is price-wise from what I've seen some people pay for Evos, price seems good. In my area at least I've seen some Ralliarts sitting around in dealerships with a price on them between 30-33k. And anyone who's ever bought cars will tell you never pay sticker anyway so you can probably chew them down from that price some more. At the very least get it for that price including tax/title/etc fees. Just don't act attached like you have to have it and even walk away if they won't budge. Chances are they'll come running to you in the parking lot saying they "just talked to their manager and are willing to work something out." It's happened to me on several occasions over the years buying cars.

Should I be concerned as to why this dealership still has five of these two years later? Or worry about a shortage in parts down the road? I wouldn't think so, but someone else mentioned it to me, so now it's in my head.

Appreciate the reply though.

I think Mitsubishi built them all during 2015 as to not have to worry about 2016+ safety/emissions requirements. I know certain things didn't comply with 2016 requirements so rather than redesign, they just built as many 2015's as they could.

I've worried some about the parts but most are interchangeable with other Mitsubishis or other evo x's or available aftermarket.

It's a hell of a car for the money. I test drove a few STI's before buying my FE and couldn't be happier though I did like the STI's interior and trunk space better.

What are your goals for the car? How will it be used?

The price sounds really good. Think I paid $40k but that was with the aero kit and stuff. We had a dealership here in Denver trying to get over $60k for one.

It would just be my DD. I kinda feel bad due to its "collectability" just driving it around, but it would be my first new car as I promised myself a long time ago when I hit a certain salary landmark, that would be my reward.

Buy it! I DD mine, put 10k euphoric miles on it in the first three months. Every time I drive it I enjoy it.

Yes, it's somewhat of a collector's car, but who knows how any other owner would treat it. I view it as an X with all of the X's best parts (minus recaros, but those are an easy bolt on). It's a fun car at stock power and a few bolt ons with a tune will net you a ton of power.

Most of them are year old or less.
Not having Recaros is kind of a sting, but you can always add those later if you want to.
Really great cars, I'd go for it!

I'd say go for it, you will pay slightly more than a gently used evo (if there is such a thing) and you will get a warranty and piece of mind knowiing it was not modded and thrashed. I love my FE, I used it for daily duty last year when my 3000gt was broken.

Well went for a test drive today. LOL

Car wouldn't start. Guy says the battery is dead because they don't allow for test drives unless they believe someone is gonna buy the car. hmmm, ok

Jump the car, immediately say there is no gas. He says its okay, lets go.

About two miles later, I'm driving down the road coming down a hill to a left turn green. Drop to 2nd, hit gas. No power. No Gas. Then, ... battery dies. LOL

Push to median. He calls the dealership, guy is coming to clean this cluster**** up.

15mins later, guy shows up, gives us some gas and jumps us again.

Drive to gas station, he puts some gas in it.

Jump it again to start it up.

now, at this point, I am sorta ok. I am understanding of the situation. Sure no gas, no big deal. And I get that they probably don't let people drive it often.

However, whilst driving back to the dealership. The headunit suddenly shows the Mitsubishi logo and the dash lights are ALL on. And a CHECK BRAKE SYSTEM SERVICE warning.

No, that I didn't like. The car, imo, shouldn't die while moving since the alternator should be providing it power and I was on the gas when this happened.

So when we get back, I tell them that I am not driving it home today and for them to spend a day or so figuring out what is going on.

However, I would like the thoughts of this community. Should I be concerned?

After reading what I just read it would be very difficult for me to buy that car. However, as long as they are willing to give you a new battery right out of the gate and do a full diagnosis and vehicle inspection they wouldn't lose me for good. This sounds like the car is having a hard time maintaining electrical power and is showing it while you're driving.

When I got mine, the dealer charged the battery for a full day since they do come with the battery like that. Now I suggest not paying more than 30-35K for it. IF not drive down to Daytona Mitsubishi they have one blue in 30K.

Remember you will need to add Recaro Seats and that is another 2K.

Just tell them that you found a better deal somewhere else if they are not willing to give it to you for 30K just my advise.

And is the truth they don't allow test drive on the cars.

Here is the link to the Daytona Mitsubishi, and if you want the Recaros. Talk to my friend Blake he can hook you up. http://www.daytonamitsu.com/new/Mits...a01871e2ea.htm

There are some exciting cars on the horizon for ~36K. Civic Type R, new STI (hopefully with a 2.0), plus Hyundai is likely bringing something special to market under their new N brand (RM16 or I30N).

There will likely still be X's sitting on lots next year.

That's unfortunate that the dealer wasn't smart enough to charge the battery and fill up the gas tank. I think the problems are related - let them charge/replace the battery and take it for another test drive. A bad battery will pull down the voltage quite a bit. If the second test drive doesn't give you perfect confidence, find another evo.

Ask for some free accessories as part of the purchase - I got mud flaps and a few extra free oil changes for free.

I'm surprised they let you test drive it. I wasn't able to test drive mine until right before I signed the purchase documents. I like this policy because I don't want to buy a car that someone else has abused even for a short amount of mileage (especially during the break-in period).

There are a couple of other good cars out there and on the way. However, none of these cars have the aftermarket support, history of reliability at high HP/boost and insane AWD handling of the Evo.

Here in Denver, we got 6" of snow over the weekend and I spent the entire time out playing in the evo. Snow mode is AMAZING! As they say, if you ever feel out of control, just hit the gas. The center diff will lock up and the torque vectoring rear differential will send power to the correct wheel and get you back going wherever you want. I tried to do these maneuvers on snow in an STI, an S4, and a 335ix and none of them were capable of this (though the S4 with it's "sport diff" was close). This is also apparent in every day (dry pavement) driving when hitting the gas through a corner.

I basically told them that I wouldn't let them put anything on my credit without me driving it first. I'm glad I did.

They did offer to sell me another Evo at the same price, however the other FE didn't have the Nav Headunit in it and well, that's not really a far trade is it?
