Just purchased a brand new 2015 GSR

What's up, fellow Evo owners.

I just purchased a brand new 2015 GSR (Feb 27, 2017). I perused the forums a bit but couldn't find an answer or a similar issue, so I wanted to create a new thread. I apologize if I missed an existing thread.

So. I'm located in Central Texas. The car currently has 1800 miles on it. The car's been running great for all intents and purposes. I did the engine break-in according to the Evo manual. Last week though, after work, I went back to the car. Turned key to ignition, and she fired up, sputtered (RPMs fell), and then she died. I waited 30 seconds, and turned to ignition again while trying to listen intently and pay attention to everything I could. She fired up as she should - strong, hovering around 1500rpm, and I proceeded to let her warm up before leaving (not a huge deal in Texas, but its a habit I developed from living up north). Full tank of gas (93o). I didn't pay it much mind, until yesterday. Same thing happened, but she didn't die this time (1/2 tank). She sputtered with super low RPM, than went back to normal idle.

Do I have an issue on my hands? Has anyone heard of this? Obviously there's no ECL, no shaking, nothing that would make me concerned; but I just want to see if the community knows what this is. If there's a mechanical problem, will Mitsu's warranty cover this? If this is a fuel pump, or bad starter or something from having the car sit in the showroom for as long as it did prior to me purchasing it.

Thanks crew! Hope to hear from you guys and gals soon.

It could also be your battery. With the car being a 2015 it may just be a bit 'tired' from sitting there and never getting run / recharged. I'd check your battery health at Autozone or something and see. (battery is in your trunk if you didn't know)

Past that ensure your air filter is good and in place properly. That is one 'minor mod' you can safely do and not void your warranty btw. Get a Cosworth drop in air filter from rallysportdirect and your car will feel much smoother overall especially high end.

Enjoy the car you're in a great state for tuners (Kozmic Motorsports in Houston, Cobb in Plano)

btw, my 2015 GSR, gave me a non start after sitting for a week. It then fired right after I was going to tow to dealer or start digging. I heard about weak batteries but the non start has not happened again.

I do, every so often, get that barely turned over sputtering start. I blip the throttle to encourage life.

I'll check voltage with a multimeter later tonight to see if the battery is holding what it should. But you're right. When it happened, my initial reaction was to blip the throttle, but I didn't thinking I shouldn't have to. Ya know? And being a new Evo owner (I've owned STI's in the past), I just wanted to see if this was a known issue with the X's.

Thanks again for the feedback everyone!

If this car is new don't take it to a tuner, take it to the dealership for warranty work.

Yeah this car is brand new (well, 0mi), purchased 2 months ago in Feb 2017. Taking it in was another option I was going to do, and have them try and diag the problem.

I've had this happen on my 2015 FE as well (twice), and so have several other people that I've seen post in forums and on Facebook.. nobody seems to know why it happens, but it does seem to happen now and then.

It always seems to fire the next turn of the "key" though, so that's a plus at least lol..

Very high chance that is the battery.
My Ralliart behave in a similar way when the stock battery no longer worked properly.
