Buying a Modded MR. Have Questions on Mods

Hi Gents,

Looking to buy a modded Evo X MR with SST Transmission. The mods on the car are:

CBRD Lite Turbos
AEM Intake
ID 1000 Injectors
Warbro Fuel Pump
AMS Downpipe
AMS High Flow Cats
MXP Exhaust
ETS Intercooler and Piping
ECUTek Flash

A few questions:

1) Does there appear to be anything missing from this build as it relates to completeness and reliability?
2) What would a car like this dyno at?
3) Can the SST Transmission handle this power?
4) Lastly, I think I know but are these high quality modifications?

Thanks in advance all!

You need to post up a recent dyno of the car for us to offer input. Also who tuned it.

Find out maintenance history -

How many miles
How long since SST transmission fluid was changed
How long on the current tune

Just for starters. Pictures of engine bay would be helpful as well.

These mods are good. It depends how the tune was done on the car in regards to the reliability of the SST and if it can handle those mods. If they are pushing torque, it's not great on the tranny and could require clutch upgrades. What year is this MR? There have been changes to the TCU and the transmission itself throughout the years.

Napalm is right, we need pics + dyno chart to be able to tell.

I'd look at SST cooling if you purchase this car.

The owner had the tune done by FFTEC in the Bay Area. Sounds like all fluids and maintenance were done on time. The car has just under 30k miles.

Like migs647 said, You need to know whats been done to the SST, if anything... The SST/TCU should be tuned to accept the new HP/TQ. Stock SST clutches can take between 350-375tq before you start having issues.... Above that and it's time to have some 550 or higher Tq clutches put in her. If you do get the car and want more out of it, then get to know the guys over a Kozmic MS. They are the SST masters and have everything you could ever need for the SST to take almost anything you throw at it.

Side note. The running codes of the SST is far more than a GSR and the build costs will also be more..... If you blow the SST and try and have mistu fix it, you're looking at 16K when she is all said and done. If i remember right, Kozmic will charge you about 5-6 for a full rebuild and upgrade to a 550 clutch kit. However you have to pull the dang thing and ship it to them or send them the car....

I have had my MR for over 2 years and love the car. The SST is a blast even if every GSR owner trolls you LOL! Get us some more info on the car and we will tell you whats what if we can.

Did he say, specifcally, I changed the fluid on my SST transmission, as it should be done around 30k?

If not, it's around 5-600 to change it.

Yes, seriously.

Judging by the overfill tank I'd say this is a 2011 or newer (in 2011 they stopped putting the overfill drain hose on). Not sure what's going on with that blow off valve. Looks like ETS upper intercooler pipe and AEM intake.

Yes, seriously.

Damn I've been changing it every 15k lol

This is a BBK Lite? Do you have any clue as to what peak boost is set at, or what boost it holds?

This is slightly smaller than my MHI turbo, I'd guess it puts out somewhere just under 400 if they were pushing it... 350-370 if they were playing it safe. The SST is good for 350-400 torque depending upon who's tuning the car.

I always say, as much as I like to Go-FAST, I like have the peace of mind being able to stop on a dime. Be sure the brakes, tires, and suspension is matched up to any added performance mods.

Ive read from multiple sources that recommend changing it at every 15K especially when modded...and at your numbers..i would definitely stick with 15K

I test drove the car and it felt very powerful but I only drove it on streets with a 40-45mph speed limit. But at low to medium speed the car combined with the sound made it feel very powerful. I'm coming from an F83 M4, which is a pig but still close to 500hp with the mods that I had.

The evo felt that much more nimble, sensitive, and powerful. It was a really interesting experience. Is this build DD-able? It sounds like its more along the lines of a mild build. I may need more time in the car..

people DD 500hp EVOs all day long. You just need to make sure that the SST was taken care of and that you take care of it as well!...... you need to ask this cat what was done to the SST if anything at all. if nothing then be ready to have the fluids changed ASAP... Not to be rude but i would be more worried about whats up with the SST than anything else you have posted to this point. I say that b/c nothing else is going to matter if that thing lets go after you buy it!! Good luck

You aren't rude saying that Evox84. It's true.

SST is by far the funnest transmission I've ever driven. But man, when those things go out, it's not for the weak hearted.
