Looking Into Buying a 2010 X w/ SST
Thinking of buying a 2010 Evo X with SST. I owned an Evo IX previously and realize the SST is a bit different as is the new bodystyle. Question is what am I looking for? Owners what issues have you had? Let me know!
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.
meticulous service records with only OEM fluids used in the drivetrain. Here in the U.S. there is no suitable replacement for the OEM Diaqueen SST fluid, in Europe i think their might be but I still wouldn't roll the dice without having done a ton of research on that. Also I always recommend getting a Pre-purchase inspection done on any car you are ready to buy. Find a reputable local 3rd party shop that is very familiar with either Evo's or at least the AWD turbo platform to perform the PPI.

Thanks, I have a buddy that's a mechanic and he says he's worked a little on X's but owned an VIII which he just sold. He was going to go with me to check it out. I have buddies that work on all kinds of imports but haven't cued them up. Are there a ton of issues with the SST? Anything worse than a "normal" manual? Seems as if he was doing maintenance and complained that it's "expensive" due to the fluids and such. I just want to make sure I'm good when all is said and done...
the main issue with the SST is when people use Non OEM fluids. The OEM fluids are pretty expensive, some call it liquid gold. Which is why people are always trying to use alternatives, but this will cause damage to the internals of the SST. The filter is kind of expensive too, but you can get a reusable one from Dodson that will pay for itself after a couple of changes. Probably the two most important things to keeping the SST happy are OEM fluid changes at an appropriate interval and making sure the transmission is good and warmed up before aggressive driving. The temperature management of the SST is kind of lacking, so there are aftermarket solutions to remedy that. You can get additional coolers or the Dodson water cooled/heated oil pan, which is on my upgrade list. The way the transmission heats itself up when cold is by slipping the clutch disks, which is not ideal, and if you drive it hard during this warm up process its going to cause premature wear on the clutches.

Nice Biggie, thanks man. The guys car I'm thinking about getting has the "re-usable" filter, and he said he's changed the fluids at 25k and 50k, so I'm assuming the next change would be 75k. He claims full 3in Ultimate Racing exhaust, EMS 3 1/2 inch intercooler and piping AEM cold air intake 3 port Cobb boost controller and a Cobb tuner which was pro tuned at/by Cobb made 325hp 350trq. So, it sounds like it's at the max of what the clutches will handle according to most people. Sounds like a decent ride man, I haven't heard many things about the SST that's all...
